HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE & POLICE COMMISSION - 03/24/1998 - MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE HELD ON MARCH 24, 1998 Chairman Bantner called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Municipal Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following were present: Chairman Gayle B. Bantner, Alan J. Shapiro, and H. Robert Goldsmith. It was moved by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by H. Robert Goldsmith that the minutes of the February 24, 1998 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES It was moved by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by H. Robert Goldsmith that the following invoices be paid: Retainer Fee from Attorney Peter A. Felice& Associates in the amount of $320.00 for retainer for the months of February and March, 1998. EXECUTIVE SESSION The Board entered into Executive Session to review the one (1)year probationary review of Police Officer Johnnell Williams. It was noted by Chairman Bantner that Police Officer Williams should be certified as a permanent Police Officer in the Elk Grove Village Police Department based upon the excellent reviews by all of his supervisors. Deputy Police Chief Hammar and Schmidt as well as Deputy Fire Chief Clark met with the Commissioners and discussed Educational Requirements for in-coming candidates. CORRESPONDENCE 1. A notice of a one (1) day suspension for a Police Officer for disobeying Rules of Conduct and failure to obey Department Orders. 2. A notice of a one (1)day suspension for a Police Officer for disobeying Rules of Conduct and failure to operate Village vehicles in a safe manner. 3. A written reprimand for a Police Officer for disobeying Rules of Conduct and failure to appear in court. z 4. A written reprimand for a Police Officer for disobeying Rules of Conduct, disobedience of an Order, and failure to adequately secure, use, care for, and maintain property/equipment. 5. A written reprimand for a Police Officer for disobeying Rules of Conduct and failure to secure, use, care for, and maintain property/equipment. 6. A memo from Chief MacArthur regarding educational requirements for candidates. 7. A memo from Chief MacArthur advising that a Fire Lieutenant found a large sum of money and turned it in. 8. A Certificate from the Illinois Fire and Police Commissioners for 1998 membership. The Secretary was instructed to contact Dr. Mendelson to obtain the Study Sheets for the upcoming Sergeants test. No date has yet been set for the test. H. Robert Goldsmith suggested that a Letter of Recognition be sent the Fire Lieutenant that turned in the large sum of money that he found. Chairman Bantner and Dr. Shapiro agreed. The Secretary was instructed to prepare a letter for Chairman's signature. PENDING Police Sergeant's Exam. Need to set date. NEW BUSINESS None OLD BUSINESS None ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Chairman Bantner and seconded by H. Robert Goldsmith that the meeting be adjourned.
