HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE & POLICE COMMISSION - 04/28/1998 - MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE HELD ON APRIL 28, 1998 Chairman Bantner called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m in the Charles J. Zettek Municipal Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following were present: Chairman Gayle B. Bantner, Alan J. Shapiro, and H. Robert Goldsmith. It was moved by Chairman Bantner and seconded by Robert Goldsmith that the minutes of the March 24, 1998 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES It was moved by Robert Goldsmith and seconded by Dr. Shapiro that the following invoices be paid: I Invoices totaling $400.00 to Theodore Polygraph Service for conducting polygraph tests on the five (5) police candidates. 2. An invoice in the amount of$830.00 to Dr. Charles Boyajian for conducting two (2) medicals on the police candidates. EXECUTIVE SESSION N/A CORRESPONDENCE L A retirement letter to Captain Robert Herrmann congratulating him on his retirement. 2. Two (2) appointment letters to the police officer candidates that are scheduled to begin employment on May 4, 1998. 3. Two letters to two (2) police officers congratulating them on completing and passing the Law Enforcement Examination. 4. A memo from Chief MacArthur regarding House Bill 2788 on Fire Department Promotions. The secretary was instructed to to forward a copy of this Bill to the Commissioners in their packet so that it could be reviewed. 5. A one-day suspension letter for a police officer for violating Rules of Conduct and failure to obey Department Orders in regards to Outside Employment. 2 6. A reprimand letter for a police officer for violating Rules of Conduct and failure to obey Department Orders in regards to Outside Employment. 7. A memo from PCI announcing the new police entry written exam. 8. Another memo from PCI in regards to the Police Sergeant test. Dr. Shapiro instructed the secretary to check with the Police Department to be sure that this study guide was sent out to all Police Officers. Chairman Bantner also instructed the secretary to be sure that this memo was posted on the bulletin board. The secretary was instructed by Chairman Bantner to make medical appointments with Dr. Boyajian's office for however many positions we are going to fill as soon as the interview appointments are set with the perspective candidates. On the night of the interviews with the candidates, the letters and medical packet of information will be given to the candidates if they passed their oral interview. PENDING A date of Tuesday, June 23, 1998 at 7:00 p.m. has been set for Police Sergeant testing. The secretary was instructed to secure Meeting Room E for the testing and to have the room set up to accommodate all non-probationary police officers that will be taking the exam. The secretary was further instructed to contact PCI to inform them of the test date. The secretary was also instructed to prepare a waiver list to have all police officer sergeant candidates sign in order to not have to publish the testing information in the newspaper. Dr. Shapiro asked the secretary to include in their mail packet, a current Police Sergeant Fact sheet in order for the commissioners to review it prior to Police Sergeant testing. NEW BUSINESS None OLD BUSINESS None ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by H. Robert Goldsmith that the meeting be adjourned.
