HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE & POLICE COMMISSION - 05/26/1998 - MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE HELD ON MAY 26, 1998 Chairman Bantner called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Municipal Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following were present: Chairman Gayle B. Bantner, Alan J. Shapiro, and H. Robert Goldsmith. It was moved by Chairman Bantner and seconded by Dr. Shapiro that the minutes of the April 28, 1998 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES No invoices presented. EXECUTIVE SESSION The one year probationary review of Firefighter George Eilers was discussed and it was determined that due to the excellent comments from Captain Menas, that George Eilers be certified as a permanent Firefighter in the Elk Grove Village Fire Department. Due to William Tranchita being on vacation, his review did not take place at this time. lie will be scheduled for the next general meeting which will take place on June 23, 1998. The Secretary was asked to find out how Firefighter Tranchita could take his vacation prior to his one year probation determination. It was further noted that although Police Sergeant testing will take place on the night of the regular general meeting, that Firefighter Tranchita should still plan on meeting with the Fire and Police Commissioners at 8:00 p.m. on June 23, 1998. They will conduct his interview once they can break away from the testing. CORRESPONDENCE 1. A retirement acceptance letter for Fire Lieutenant Thomas A. Gauss. His retirement will be effective on June 3, 1998. 2. A probationary recommendation letter for Firefighter George G. Eilers from Captain Menas recommending that Firefighter Eilers be certified as permanent status. 3. Completed waiver forms from the 71 candidates that are eligible to take the Police Sergeant's exam that is scheduled for June 23, 1998. All 71 candidates have signed the waivers. 4. A memo from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board advising that Randal Schumacher has completed his training. 5. A copy of a memo from Chief Engelbrecht that was sent to all eligible non-probationary Police Officers advising them of the upcoming Police Sergeant's test. Dr. Shapiro asked as to why there was only a 56 day notice given to the Police Officers as opposed to the customary 60 days. Chairman Bantner advised that the Police Department had the information in enough time to allow a 60 day notice. However, they did not get it posted in time. 6. A Notice of Suspension for a Police Officer due to violation of Rules of Conduct and violating Department Orders regarding outside employment. The Secretary was directed at this time have Meeting Room E set up in a fashion on June 23, 1998 in a fashion that will accommodate all 71 candidates seating 4 candidates per table as well as having a table available for the examiner to place all his materials. The Secretary was advised that future Waiver correspondence letters directed to the Police Department and Fire Department should have Dr. Shapiro's signature on them. The Secretary was advised to retype the new Fact Sheet for Police Sergeant testing and have enough copies available for distribution on the evening of the testing. The Secretary was advised to contact Deputy Schmidt and advise him that the Fire and Police Commissioners would like him to be in attendance on the evening of June 23, 1998 for the testing as well as they wish to discuss the exam for original appointments at that time.
