MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING

OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON NOVEMBER 21, 2000
Chairman Bantner called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek
Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village and noted for the record that the
following were present: Chairman Gayle B. Bantner, Dr. Alan J. Shapiro, Secretary and
Robert Goldsmith, Commissioner.
It was moved by Secretary Shapiro and seconded by Commissioner Goldsmith that the
minutes of the October 24, 2000 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board
dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was moved upon by acclamation
whereupon Chairman Bantner declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
The following invoices were presented for payment:
1. Police Consultants - $800.00—Invoice 1940 dated 11/03/00
2. Psychological Assessments for police officer candidate and firefighter
candidate.
3. The Clinic- $495.00—Invoice dated 11/16/00. Pre-employment
physical for firefighter candidate.
4. Police Consultants - $400.00—Invoice 1956 dated 11/17/00;
Pychological Assessment for firefighter candidate.
5. Corporate Express— Office supplies; three invoices totaling$117.03
It was moved by Dr. Shapiro and seconded by Bob Goldsmith that the Board authorize
the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
1. Six-month Probationary Reviews for four probationary police officers;
2. Individual Oral Interview offirefighter candidate;
3. Individual Oral Interview for police officer candidate;
4. Met with Chief Steve Schmidt to discuss tentative schedule of the next
police officer examination.

CORRESPONDENCE
1. Copy of response letter to Howard Hall, Elk Grove Village Professional
Firefighters Local 2340. Provided copy of 1997 Fire Lieutenant's
Testing Process handout;
2. Copy of letter to Human Resources advising completion of
probationary period for police officer;
3. Copy of response letter sent to individual requesting information
regarding our firefighter hiring process and requirements;
4. Copy of letter to Human Resources advising completion of
probationary period for firefighter;
5. Copy of letter to Chief Schmidt requesting performance reviews for four
probationary police officer,.
6. Copy of letter from Chief Schmidt to Probationary Officers advising
them ofscheduled six-month probationary review;
7. Copy of performance reviews for probationary officers;
8. Copy of Police Department Publication, The Beat Goes On, November
2000 edition attached;
9. Copy of Written Reprimand issued to police officer for violating Section
IV, Rule 49, Failure to appear in court when required or scheduled;
10. Copy of PCI newsletter, October 2000 edition, discussing
contemporary problems in police recruiting.
11. Copy of Written Reprimand to police officer for violating Section IV,
Rules of Conduct, Rule 49, Failure to appear in court when required or
scheduled.
12. Copy of letter from Police Officer announcing his retirement effective
November 24, 2000.
13. Copy of retirement congratulations letter sent to Police Officer;
14. Copy of Notice of Suspension issued to police officer far violating
Section IV Rules of Conduct, Rule 49. Failure to appear in court when
required or scheduled.
PENDING
1. Police Officer Hiring Process— Current Eligibility List Exhausted; two
openings;planning for next examination cycle.
2. Firefighter Hiring Process- Continuing

NEW BUSINESS
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Chairman Bantner and seconded by Robert Goldsmith that the meeting
be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Bantner
declared the motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 11:00 p.m.
