HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE & POLICE COMMISSION - 11/19/2002 - c: Village Clerk MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE HELD ON NOVEMBER 19, 2002 Chairman Bantner called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village and noted for the record that the following were present: Chairman Gayle B. Bantner, Commissioner H. Robert Goldsmith, and Secretary Alan J. Shapiro, DDS. It was moved by Commissioner Goldsmith and seconded by Secretary Shapiro that the minutes of October 15, 2002 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was moved upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Bantner declared the motion carried. PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES The following invoices were presented for payment: 1. Peter A. Felice &Associates—Invoice dated 11/1/02 in the amount of $160.00 for October 2002 retainer fee. 2. Police Consultants, Inc. —Invoice 2688 dated 10/23/02 in the amount of $5,421.75 for administration of 161 firefighter entrance examinations. 3. Corporate Express—Invoice #37821379 dated 11/04/02 in the amount of $68.90 for office supplies. It was moved by Commissioner Goldsmith and seconded by Chairman Bantner that the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. EXECUTIVE SESSION (Closed session minutes recorded). CORRESPONDENCE 1. Memo to Chief Schmidt requesting comments/constructive criticism regarding the performance of Probationary Officer who was hired on 9/24/01. Memo also scheduled final probationary review. 2. Memo from Chief Schmidt recommending that police officer hired on 9/24/01 be granted permanent employee status. 3. Copy of Written Reprimand issued to police officer for violating Section 26.1.1A, Rules of Conduct, Rule 49, Failure to appear in court when required or scheduled. Copy of Notice of Suspension issued to police officer for violating Section 26.1.1 A, Rules of Conduct, Rule 49, Failure to appear in court when required or scheduled. 5. Copy of promotional materials forwarded by Chief Schmidt from Paradigm Consulting &Clinical Services, Ltd. 6. Copy of memo to Chief Schmidt scheduling six- month probationary review for police officer hired on 4/1/02, and requesting constructive comments/criticisms regarding his performance. 7. Copy of letter sent to five firefighter candidates that failed to appear for the physical ability test administered on November 2, 2002. Letter notified candidates that they have been eliminated from consideration. 8. Memo to Chief MacArthur scheduling six month probationary reviews for two firefighters hired on 5/28/02, and requesting constructive comments/criticisms regarding their performance. PENDING Police Officer Hiring Process—two openings (not being replaced at this time). Firefighter Hiring Process—two openings (eligibility list exhausted). Firefighter Testing Process—Fifty-seven candidates have been scheduled for group interviews on December 17, 2002. NEW BUSINESS ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Chairman Bantner and seconded Commissioner Goldsmith that the meeting be adjourned.
