HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE PENSION - 01/21/1988 - Fire Pension x MINUTES OF BOARD MEETING ELK GROVE FIREMEN'S PENSION FUND JANUARY 21, 1988 A Special meeting of the Firemen's Pension Fund was held on Thursday, January 21, u 1988 in the Headquarters Fire Station, 101 Biesterfield Road. The meeting was called to order by President Walter J. Kriesant at 8:03 P.M. The President stated the purpose of the meeting was to update the DISABILITY APPLICATION of D. Spung and review the medical findings of a future Fire Dept. candidate for entrance into the Fire Dept. Pension Fund. ROLL CALL On Roll Call the following members were present: Walter J. Kriesant, Patricia S. Smith, George C. Coney, Charles B. Henrici, Harvey R. Speiden, Jerry L. Norris, and Joseph Gardner III. Absent were: Charles J. Zettek and George Knickerbocker. APPLICATION FOR DISABILITY President W. Kriesant informed the Board he had received a letter from D. Spung and the law firm representing him that he was withdrawing his APPLICATION FOR DISABILITY. The letters were dated January 7, 1988. APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP C.Henrici distributed a form letter from Dr. Collins on the candidate. A discussion followed: C. Henrici reported on former Fund member D. Gorden's leaving the Fire Dept. 4 H. Speiden's conversations with Dr. Moore, the Funds medical advisor, who stated the man is going to have a back problem and should not be doing manual labor. His discussions with other Doctor's at the hospital who stated the same thing, no physical labor. W. Kriesant's conversations with Dr. Zydlo, the medical advisor to Arlington Heights Fire Dept. Pension Fund, who stated he would almost guarantee within 10 to 15 years he will have a back problem. Setting a precedent for future fund members having this same condition. Possible law suit for persons who have been refused hiring having this same con- dition. Possible law suit if we accept or refuse this man on the information we have be- fore us now. . The Board not having any written information on what this diagnosis is, Exactly. What is Grade I. How fast can a man go from Grade I to Grade V. Contacting the Orthopedic Surgeons Association. Needing a better definition of this condition and the consequence of it. The Board concluded: C. Henrici would contact Dr. Semerad and ask him to come to a Board meeting and explain the condition and what the prognosis is. ADJOURNMENT Motion by P. Smith, seconded by G. Coney to adjourn.
