Womer, CHICAGO TRIBUNE YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT ISSUES The Committee discussed the following issues with members of the Youth In Government Program: -- Alternate traffic routes to ease congestion during construction; -- Landmeier Road speed limit; -- Communication between Elk Grove and Des Plaines; -- Access to Elk Grove High School from Arlington Heights Road; and -- Elk Grove 's services for the homeless - 2 - Upon conclusion of the discussion it was the consensus of the Committee to do the following: -- Contact Des Plaines about having their own youth in government program and to see if they can air Elk Grove High School activities/information on their local cable access channel; -- revisit alternatives for providing left-turn access to Elk Grove High School from Arlington Heights Road; and -- contact Alexian Brothers about homeless people on/in their property in Itasca Meadows. NEWSLETTER ARTICLES It was the consensus of the Committee to approve the mass mailing of the newsletter with the following changes: -- placement of the Charles J. Zettek article on the front page; -- listing of phone prefixes affected by area code change included in the article on area codes; and -- inclusion of the "www" in the Internet article. SIDEWALK ON PLUM GROVE ROAD The consensus of the Committee was as follows: -- to have staff research the feasibility of installing sidewalk on the east side of Plum Grove Road from Biesterfield Road to University Lane; and -- to contact the Village of Schaumburg to find out if they have any future plans for installing a sidewalk along the west side of Plum Grove Road. SMOKING PROHIBITION The consensus of the committee was as follows: -- to ban smoking in the Municipal Complex lunchroom and the Police Department pistol range; and -- to adopt the new smoking policy by resolution at the 11 /14195 Village Board meeting under the New Business portion of the agenda with an effective date of January 1 . \ jr�7 3 - 40TH ANNIVERSARY COMMITTEE The consensus of the committee was as follows: -- to concur with the 40th Anniversary Committee recommendation for the 40th Anniversary logo; and -- to approve the combination of the 40th Anniversary Soc-Hop with the Friday night event at the Rotaryfest on June 28, 1996. TAX LEVY DETERMINATION The consensus of the Committee was to approve a 3% increase in the General Fund Levy which amounts to a total increase of 2. 16% when debt service and the Library levy are included.
