Connelly, Elk Grove Times JOINT MEETING OF VILLAGE BOARD AND BOARD OF HEALTH SMOKING POLICY Chairman Christie gave information on the dangers of second hand smoke. The recommendation made by the Board of Health is as follows: - A 6 month phase out policy with smoking allowed only in designated places; - The designated places should be areas that are ventilated independently from the buildings' central system; and - After the phase out period, the building should be smoke free. The consensus of the Village Board was to discuss this recommendation at a future Committee of the Whole Meeting. OBJECTIVES OF THE BOARD OF HEALTH Kelley Clancy discussed the study she made of the health status of the Village. Based on this study the Board of Health recommends the following: - "Healthy Heart Choices" article in the Village Newsletter. - Suggest that the library incorporates a nutrition "center" with pamphlets and other educational materials. - Educational nutritional materials in supermarkets. - Joint meetings with the Park District and School Districts to discuss common promotional programs on "a healthy lifestyle". - Solicit health needs from residents. The consensus of the Village Board was to allow the Board of Health to pursue these recommendations. In addition, the Village Board requested that the Board of Health use Channel Six to promote and broadcast their programs. FUTURE MEETING The Village Board will meet with the Board of Health in the future to discuss mutual thoughts on the vision of the Board of Health. The joint meeting concluded at 7:40 p.m. The Board of Health was excused for the remainder of the Committee of the Whole Meeting. NOISE - LANDMEIER PUBLIC WORKS FACILITY The consensus of the Committee was as follows: - Immediately implement the "no cost" recommendations as reported by the Public Works Director in his memo dated November 1, 1994 to reduce noise at the facility; - Research the relocation of the material storage areas to Dierking Terrace; - Look into replacing the fence that stands between the residential properties and the facility; and - Discuss this item at a future Committee of the Whole meeting for inclusion in the next fiscal year budget. PARAMEDIC STRENGTH The consensus of the Committee was to increase the authorized strength of paramedics. This item will be brought up under New Business on the December 13, 1994 Village Board agenda.
