LINE OF SIGHT
Members reviewed a report and videotape prepared by
the Building Department. Various locations throughout the
Village were analyzed to highlight a range of severity of
line of sight problems. Consensus was to utilize the letters
presented by the Building Commissioner. These letters are
directed to: 1 ) new residents; and 2) residents whose
landscaping may become a problem. The consensus of the members
was to use discretion in determining line of sight problems
rather than the absolute definition of line of sight.
EXEMPT RANK
Chief Engelbrecht presented his request to have the
Police Lieutenant rank made exempt. Discussion ensued on:
the method of selection if not done by the Fire and Police
Commission; the impact on the Department; an area survey
of other communities; and employee termination procedures.
Consensus was to remain with the status quo.
President Zettek directed the Village Manager, Police
Chief and Fire Chief to discuss possible avenues to give
the Chief greater selection ability (e.g. more points for
their assignment, choice among top three candidates) .
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS ROAD - RIGHT TURN LANE
The Village Engineer provided members with a status
report on the Village' s request to Cook County to permit
the construction of a right turn lane southbound on Arlington
Heights Road at Biesterfield Road. The County has requested
an additional ten (10) feet of R-O-W in order to avoid plowing
snow on public property and the sidewalk. As the Village
already has a ten (10) foot easement in that location it
could be altered to become a "snow easement". To obtain
County approval , the sidewalk would essentially become a
carriage walk for a length of 200 feet north from the
intersection.
Consensus concurred.
MUNICIPAL BUILDING - CONCRETE WORK
The Village Manager requested permission to have
additional concrete work done at the Municipal Building
to replace the existing entrance walkway and stairs. Cost
was estimated at $7,000-$8,500. Members agreed.
BIESTERFIELD ROAD
Members agreed that the Village should work aggressively
to get information out to the residents on the reasons for
(and the correct details of) the Biesterfield Road/I-290
interchange and the Biesterfield Road extension. Consensus
was to leave the signs up in the Westgate/Stockbridge area
which were installed to discourage cut-through traffic.
