FLOOD DAMAGE
The Village Manager stated that he would be seeking at
the Village Board meeting the authorization to re-landscape the
municipal building site and to renovate the lower level.
It was explained by the Village Manager that although
the pump equipment was designed to handle as much as six inches
of rainfall per hour and the berm around the perimeter of the
site was designed at 50% over the historical high water level,
that the 93j+ inches of rain which fell in a short amount of time
on August 13 and 14 caused the streets and surrounding area to
flood so heavily as to also flood the municipal complex.
Approximately 2,200,000 gallons of water were contained in the
municipal complex.
Mr. Willis recommended that to mitigate any future
occurrence that a berm be constructed on the site at an elevation
of two feet above the new high water mark. The berm would have
a concrete retaining wall inside to further protect against
flooding. Construction of the berm would leave five weak spots
- the four courtroom entrances and the dock area. None of these
areas flooded during the August 14 disaster and each could be
quickly and easily sandbagged. The cost of the berm was estimated
at $80,000.

Consensus of the members was to proceed with the berm
but to delay renovation efforts until completion of the berm.
The meeting was adjourned for the 8 p.m. Village Board
meeting.
