HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE - 08/29/1989 - OAKTON ST EXTENSION OPENING TO FOREST PRESERVE/LEAF PICK UP PROGRAM COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING Elk Grove Village August 29, 1989 7 p.m. MEMBERS PRESENT: Charles Zettek, Village President Edward Hauser, Village Trustee Ronald Chernick, Village Trustee Joseph Bosslet, Village Trustee Michael Tosto, Village Trustee Dennis Gallitano, Village Trustee MEMBERS ABSENT: James Petri , Village Trustee STAFF PRESENT: Village Manager Assistant Village Manager Administrative Assistant Director of Finance Village Engineer Director of Public Works (7:20 p.m. ) Commander Rose (Police Department) RETIREMENT DINNER FOR BUILDING COMMISSIONER TOM RETTENBACHER The Village Manager advised Members that the dinner needs to be rescheduled. Consensus was to tentatively reschedule the dinner for 9-15-89 (Friday) . TRUSTEE INSTITUTE The Village President reminded members of the upcoming 1989 Trustees Institute in September. OAKTON STREET EXTENSION (OPENING TO FOREST PRESERVE) Members continued discussion of their opposition to a recommendation made by the Forest Preserve to close the eastern-most entrance to the Forest Preserve in order to "make way" for the overpass on Higgins and open another entrance to the Forest Preserve at Oakton Street. Consensus was to have the Village President draft a letter to the Forest Preserve expressing the Board's concerns regarding the extension of Oakton Street. - 2 - UTILIZATION OF ADDITIONAL INCOME TAX REVENUES (CAPITAL PROJECTS) Each member reviewed a report prepared by Staff listing additional Capital projects and discussed their individual preferences as to how the additional revenues should be spent. Members also noted that a decision should be made as to whether the Village should look at a few expensive Capital projects or several less expensive Capital projects. The Village Manager recommended that members may wish to narrow the list of potential Capital projects and then concentrate on realistic cost estimates. Consensus was to continue discussion of the Capital projects on 9-19-89. LEAF PICK-UP PROGRAM Trustee Bosslet reviewed the results of the 8-24-89 Recycling Committee meeting. Committee Members met with Staff and Garden City to review the proposed pilot leaf pick-up program.
