CONVENTION CENTER
A letter from Al Larson, President of Schaumburg, was sent to
each member of the Village Board. Schaumburg will contribute $1 .4
million to $1 .8 million per year, plus a 2% hotel/motel tax, for the
convention center.
The Manager distributed a hotel/motel survey regarding the
collection of a 2% tax on rooms for financing the convention center•
Majority of hotels/motels supported the 2% tax for the convention
center.
Elk Grove would be responsible for contributing $206,000 per
year to be used to retire the bonds for the center.
Gallitano suggested that if Schaumburg builds additional
hotel/motel rooms, which would generate more taxes, then those dollars
should be used to reduce on a proportionate share the obligations
of the other communities.
Consensus of the Board was to consider favorably the resolution
to enact a convention center tax and enter into discussions to develop
an intergovernmental agreement.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
