Municipal agencies and private real estate and airport development firms plan to establish a public/private partnership to construct an airport in Peotone. The Mayor reported that the next phase of the project will include the development of a feasibility study. The developer estimates that the cost of the study will approximate $5 million, and that the developer will pay 50% of this cost. The other 50% will be contributed by municipalities, which at this time are Bensenville, Elk Grove Village, and Park Ridge. The Mayor noted a number of other municipalities and councils of government expressed interest in participating in this project, both as a member and financial partner. The Mayor said the first main phase of the project should still be less than $650,000, but in order to have enough available funds to carry through the whole project, $1 million should be more than enough. The unanimous consensus of the Board was to schedule authorization of up to a $1 million contribution at the July 23, 2002 Village Board meeting. The Mayor is still hopeful, with other towns joining, our portion could be significantly reduced or eliminated. The meeting adjourned at 7:24 p.m.
