Chief of Police/Police Staffing
The Chief of Police brought the Village Board up-to-date on activities since taking office.
Those activities include meeting with every officer, meeting with Fire and Police
Commission, improving levels of service, and seeking FBI academy training in January
2000.
The Chief discussed the need for a civilian"Assistant to the Chief'position. The
position would handle administrative matters, allowing officers and supervisors more
time on the streets. Several items included under the position include training
coordination, policy review, budget tracking, inventory accounting, and similar items.
After further deliberation, the consensus of the Village Board was as follows:
1. Ascertain additional information concerning Police Officer hiring requirements and
what body has authority to determine those standards; and,
2. Create the"Assistant to the Police Chief'position. Staff will need to develop these
items and place them on a future Village Board agenda.
The meeting adjourned at 7:05 pm.
