New Area Code Designations
The Village President informed the Village Board that he
and the Village Manager attended a meeting with officials from
the Village of Schaumburg and Ameritech to discuss the impact .
of future area code designations on the Elk Grove/Schaumburg
area. This meeting was held in anticipation of avoiding
possible litigation to prevent Ameritech from having two area
codes in Elk Grove and Schaumburg.
Ameritech informed the Village that they can either have
the portion of Elk Grove Village which lies in Elk Grove
Township designated as area code 847 while the areas west of
Route 53 and south of Devon Avenue would be designated as 630
area code. Or, all of Elk Grove could have area code 847 but
phone numbers would have to be changed for those west of 53
and south of Devon.
The Village President stated that the Village of
Schaumburg has hired a consultant to research Ameritech 's
statements, and provide recommendations as to our options in
order to ensure that the new area codes have the minimum
effect on Village residents. Schaumburg will bear the entire
cost of the consultant and be reimbursed by Ameritech.
The Village President also stated that the president of
Ameritech offered to make a presentation to the Village Board
after the consultant 's review.
The consensus of the Village Board was to wait to review
the report from the village of Schaumburg's consultant as well
as a prefix phone number change analysis from Ameritech before
taking any further action.
The meeting adjourned at 10:30 p.m.
