Number of pages attached: 1 Date(s)of review for release: December 2004 p Date of approval for release: ✓ e5 " o? 7—OY 1/13/04 7:27 p.m. Personnel The Village has been contacted by District 54 that they do not have any funds available to pay for the School Resource Officer at Mead Junior High School. The Police Chief recommends not continuing further in the SRO program, but rather use the officer to participate in the DEA. This would allow the Village to gain asset seizure funds. The Village has been notified that the DEA will keep the position open until July, which would allow the SRO to finish the school year at Mead. For the DEA, the Village must cover the costs of salary and a vehicle, and it was noted that the DEA would cover all overtime costs. It should be noted that Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg have also noted that they will not fund the SRO program to place officers in the junior high schools, other than the 20% already contributed for the program. The consensus was to not fund additional costs for the SRO and to advise District 54 that the position has not provided any tangible benefit to either the Village or District 54. The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
