MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON NNE 17, 2003
Chairman Bantner called the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village and noted for the record that the following were
present: Chairman Gayle B. Bantner, Commissioner H. Robert Goldsmith, and Secretary Alan
J. Shapiro, DDS.
It was moved by Commissioner Goldsmith and seconded by Secretary Shapiro that the
minutes of May 20, 2003 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with
the reading thereof. The motion was moved upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Bantner declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
The following invoices were presented for payment:
1) Ottosen Trevarthen Britz Kelly&Cooper, Invoice 25151 dated 6/03/03 in the
amount of$240.00 for services rendered concerning the Kuzyk appeal.
It was moved by Commissioner Goldsmith and seconded by Chairman Bantner that the Board
authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
EXECUTIVE SESSION (Closed session minutes recorded).
CORRESPONDENCE
1) Appointment letter to firefighter with hire date of 6/2/03.
2) Letter to fire candidate advising that he did not pass his medication examination.
3) Written Reprimand issued to police officer for violating Rules and Regulations, Section
26.1.IA, Rules of Conduct, Rule 1, Violations of any law, ordinance, or Department
General Order(working secondary employment during a period of suspension).
4) Written Reprimand issued to police officer for violating Rules and Regulations, Section
26.1.1 A, Rules of Conduct, Rule 9, Inattention to Duty.
5) Written Reprimand issued to firefighter for violating Rules and Regulations, Article I,
Subsection 1.5, Subsection 27, Conduct Unbecoming a Village Employee While On Duty.

6) Memo to Human Resources appointing two firefighters to permanent employee status.
7) Notice of Suspension to police officer for violating Rules and Regulations, Section
26.1.1 A, Rules of Conduct, Rule 33, Failure to be Prompt for a Duty Assignment,
including roll call and court appearance.
8) Letter from Attorney Thomas Polacek of Schenk Duffy McNamara Phelan Carey& Ford
advising that police officer has withdrawn his request for an appeal hearing on his one-day
suspension.
9) Memo from Chief Schmidt advising that police officer's Order of Suspension has been
rescinded and re-issued as a Written Reprimand.
PENDING
1) Police Officer Hiring Process—two openings(not being replaced at this time).
2) Firefighter Hiring Process—five vacancies (not being replaced at this time).

ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Chairman Bantner and seconded Commissioner Goldsmith that the meeting
be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Bantner
declared the motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 9:45 p.m.
