HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE & POLICE COMMISSION - 09/24/2003 - c: ViIIW Clerk MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 24,2003 Chairman Bantner called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village and noted for the record that the following were present: Chairman Gayle B. Bantner, Secretary Alan J. Shapiro, DDS, and Commissioner E. Butch Ehrke. It was moved by Secretary Shapiro and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the minutes of August 19, 2003 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was moved upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Bantner declared the motion carried. PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES The following invoices were presented for payment: 1) Police Consultant, Inc. —Invoice 2903 dated 09/02/03 in the amount of$500.00 for psychological evaluation of police officer candidate. 2) The Clinic—Invoice dated 09/10/03 in the amount of$495.00 for medical evaluation of police officer candidate. It was moved by Secretary Shapiro and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. EXECUTIVE SESSION (Closed session minutes recorded). CORRESPONDENCE 1) Notice of Suspension issued to Police Officer for violating Rules and Regulations, Section 26.1.1A, Rule 1, Rule 2, Rule 5 and Rule 9. 2) Letters to six police candidates requesting completion of their background packets and employment applications. 3) Letter to police candidate advising him to report for his medical evaluation. 4) Letter to police candidate requesting written confirmation of his request to withdraw from our hiring process. Candidate's confirmation received. 5) Letter from Firefighter announcing his retirement effective September 15, 2003. Letter from Chief Goostree to Firefighter congratulating him on his retirement and thanking him for his service. MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS Page Two September 24, 2003 6) Memo to Human Resources advising that firefighter has completed his probationary period and should be transferred to permanent employee status effective 9/03/03. 7) Final documentation relating to the settlement of Quinn v. Elk Grove Village, et al. 8) Memo to Chief Schmidt requesting comments/constructive criticisms of Police Officer for his six-month probationary review scheduled for 10/21/03 at 7:00 p.m. 9) Client Alert Newsletter from Ottosen Trevarthen Britz Kelly & Cooper; September 2003 edition which includes new provisions regarding closed meetings under the Open Meetings Act. 10)Legal Insights Newsletter from Ottosen Trevarthen Britz Kelly & Cooper; Summer 2003 edition which includes Fire Department Promotion Act. 11)Memo from D/C Lebert to Police Officer advising him to report for his scheduled six month probationary review. 12)Appointment letter to Police Officer; hire date 09/22/03. PENDING 1) Police Officer Hiring Process—four openings (no authorization to replace at this time). Current eligibility list effective until May 30, 2004. 2) Firefighter Hiring Process—five vacancies (no authorization to replace at this time). Current eligibility list effective until December 27, 2004. NEW BUSINESS OLD BUSINESS ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Secretary Shapiro and seconded Commissioner Ehrke that the meeting be adjourned.
