MINUTES OF T14E REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE:AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON OCTOBER 21,2003
Chairman Bantner called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village and noted for the record that the following were
present: Chairman Gayle B. Bantner and Commissioner E. Butch Ehrke.
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Bantner that the
minutes of September 24, 2003 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense
with the reading thereof. The motion was moved upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Bantner declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
The following invoices were presented for payment:
1) Ottosen Trevarthen Britz Kelly & Cooper, Ltd. —Invoice 25380 dated 7/02/03 in
the amount of$240.00 for professional services rendered concerning police officer
suspension appeal.
2) Pioneer Press—Invoice 0309030818 dated 9/27/03 in the amount of$20.00 for
publication of meeting notice.
3) IFPCA—2004 Membership Dues in the amount of$340.00.
It was moved by Commissioner Bantner and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the Board
authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.

CORRESPONDENCE
1) Memo from Chief Schmidt regarding the performance of Police macer for his six-
month probationary review.
2) Copy of retirement congratulations letter sent to Firefighter.
3) Memo from Human Resources.Director to Village Manager regarding Fire
Lieutenant Promotional Process. Village Manager margin note requests review
and comment from FPC.
4) Memo to Human Resources Director and Village Manager regarding
recommendations for the Fire Lieutenant Promotional Process.

PENDING
1) Police Officer Hiring Process--four openings (no authorization to replace at this
time). Current eligibility list effective until May 30, 2004.
2) Firefighter Hiring Process—five vacancies (no authorization to replace at this
time). Current eligibility list effective until December 27, 2004.
NEW BUSINESS
Discussed Training Opportunities and instructed secretary to process paperwork to enroll in
the following seminars:
IFPCA Fall Seminar—November 1, 2003 —E. Butch Ehrke
Module I session only—Board Duties and Police Selection/Entry Level
IFCA Seminar titled, "A Positive Approach to the Firefighter's Promotion Act
November 8, 2003 —Gayle B. Bantner
OLD BUSINESS
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Bantner that the meeting
be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Bantner
declared the motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m.
