HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE & POLICE COMMISSION - 02/17/2004 - c: Village Clerk R F CIE I V E L MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING MAR 2 5 2004 OF THE BOARD OF FIR1E AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE VILLAGE CLERK $ OFFICE HELD ON FEBRUARY 17, 2004 Chairman Bantner called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village and noted for the record that the following were present: Chairman Gayle B. Bantner, Secretary Alan J. Shapiro, DDS, and Commissioner E. Butch Ehrke. It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Shapiro that the minutes of January 20, 2004 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was moved upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Bantner declared the motion carried. PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES—(None) EXECUTIVE SESSION - (None) CORRESPONDENCE 1) Notice of Suspension dated 1/19/04 to Police Officer for violating Rules and Regulations, Sections 26.1.1A, Rule 46 (Failure to operate Village vehicle in a safe and prudent manner, or to obey related traffic laws). 2) Letter to police candidate advising him to contact Dr. Boyajian's office to schedule an appointment for his medical examination. 3) Memo from George Knickerbocker regarding Memorandum of Understanding. 4) E-mail from Pat Droschak regarding HB599, Firefighter Pension Benefits. 5) Letter from Chief Schmidt to Elk Grove High School confirming dates for police examination and Power test. 6) Memo to Chief Schmidt requesting comments/constructive criticism of the performance of Police Officer for his six month probationary review scheduled for March 16th at 7:15pm. 7) Memo to Chief Goostree requesting comments/constructive criticism of the performance of Firefighter for bis six month probationary review scheduled for March 16th at 7:00pm. 8) Memo from Chief Schmidt to Police Officer advising him of his scheduled probaEtionary review. 9) Memo from Chief Schmidt to his staff requesting input regarding the performance of police Officer. MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS Page Two February 17,2004 OLD BUSINESS NEW BUSINESS 1) Meeting with Chief Goostree and Deputy Chief Miller Discussed revising applicant requirements for firefighter candidates. John Kelly to forward draft regarding paramedic license in lieu of college hours. 2) Meeting with Chief Schmidt aid Deputy Chief Hammar Discussed schedule for police orientation, written examination, possibility of multiple test sites in future. 3) Meeting with John Kelly Discussed power test waiver. Commission instructed secretary to forward copy of proposed waiver to John Kelly for his review. Discussed fire lieutenant promotional process. Commission instructed secretary to forward to John Kelly, the commission's recommendations for requirements, testing components, and points for future fire lieutenant promotional processes. Discussed extension of fire lieutenant eligibility list, police applicant requirements. Discussed registration fee for police and firefighter candidates in fixture. John Kelly to prepare draft for the commission to submit to village board. Discussed candidate requirements for police test 4) Discussed police orientation; invitation to Dr. Mendelsohn;powerpoint presentation; new registration :form for police examination. PENDING 1) Police Officer Hiring Process--five openings(Authorization to replace one at this time/one for July academy). Current eligibility list effective until May 30, 2004. 2) Firefighter Hiring Process—five vacancies (no authorization to replace at this time). Current eligibility list effective until December 27, 2004. ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Shapiro that the meeting be adjourned.
