MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON MAY 20,2004
Secretary Shapiro called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village and noted for the record that the following were
present: Secretary Alan J. Shapiro, DDS, and Commissioner E. Butch Ehrke.
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Shapiro that the
minutes of April 16, 2004 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with
the reading thereof. The motion was moved upon by acclamation whereupon Secretary
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1) Dr. Charles Boyajian, Invoice dated 4122/04 in the amount of$495.00for medical
evaluation ofpolice candidate.
2) Dr. Charles Boyajian, Invoice dated 4122104 in the amount of$520.00 for medical
evaluation offirefghter candidate.
3) United Visual, Invoice 64749 dated 4/20104 in the amount of$80.00 for rental of
screen for police orientation on 4116104.
4) Daily Herald, Invoice T3243092 dated 4117104 in the amount of$810.00 for
publication of classified adfor police exam.
5) Police Consultants, Inc., Invoice 3029 dated 4119104 in the amount of$3862.00 for
administration and testing fees for police officer entry examination.
6) Suburban Chicago Newspapers, Invoice 51234136000 dated 4130104 in the
amount of$225.50 for publication of classified ad for police examination.
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Secretary Shapiro that the Board
authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon the Secretary declared the motion carried.
EXECUTIVE SESSION (Closed session minutes recorded)
CORRESPONDENCE
1) Memo to Chief Goostree requesting comments/constructive criticism of
firefighterfor his final probationary review.
2) Memo from Chief Goostree regarding the performance offirefighter hired on
610212004 and his recommendation that he be granted permanent employee status.
3) Appointment letter to police officer effective 715104.
4) Appointment letter to firefighter effective 5124/04.
5) Letter to police candidates regarding multiple group interview time schedule on
May 20'h and requirement to present proof of college credit hours on that date.

6) Written Reprimand dated 5/7/04 issued to police officer for violating Rules and
Regulations, Section 26.1.IA, Rules of Conduct, Rule 46, Failure to operate
Village Vehicle in a safe and prudent manner, or to obey related traffic laws.
OLD BUSINESS -None
NEW BUSINESS
1. Meeting with Dr. Mendelsohn to discuss format of summaries and conclusions on
psychological evaluations. Dr. Mendelsohn to provide separate summary sheet for
submittal to Police Chief and Fire Chief.
PENDING
1) Police Officer Hiring Process--three openings (no authorization to replace at this
time). Current eligibility list effective until May 30, 2004.
2) Firefighter Hiring Process—five vacancies (no authorization to replace at this
time). Current eligibility list effective until December 27, 2004.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Shapiro that the meeting
be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Commissioner Shapiro
declared the motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 10:00 p.m.
