HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE & POLICE COMMISSION - 06/22/2004 - c: Village Clerk MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF FIRE: AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE HELD ON NNE 22, 2004 Chairman Bantner called the meeting to order at 4:50 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building, 901 Wellington Avenue,Elk Grove Village and noted for the record that the following were present: Chairman Gayle B. Bantner, Secretary Alan J. Shapiro, DDS, and Commissioner E. Butch Ehrke. It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Shapiro that the minutes of May 20, 2004 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was moved upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Bantner declared the motion carried. PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES 1) Police Consultants, Inc., Invoice 3048 dated 5/21/04 in the amount of$790.00 for multiple group interview assessments for police candidates. 2) Daily Herald, Invoice T3299791 dated 6/02/04 in the amount of$22.50 for publication of legal notice for police officer appeal hearing. 3) Daily Herald, Invoice T3306053 dated 6/11/04 in the amount of$27.50 for publication of 6/15/04 meeting change notice. 4) Theodore Polygraph Service, Invoice 14470 dated 6/21/04 in the amount of $500.00 for polygraph examinations for four police candidates. It was moved by Commissioner Bantner and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. Recess: EXECUTIVE SESSION—Closed session minutes recorded. Reconvene: CORRESPONDENCE 1) Response letter dated 5/20/04 to police candidate regarding his request to schedule another power test date. 2) Notice of Suspension dated 5/20/04 to police officerfor violating Rules and Regulations, Section 26.I.IA, Rules of Conduct, Rule 49, Failure to appear in court when required or scheduled. 3) Letter from police officer appealing his one-day suspension. 4) Notice of Hearing scheduled for Tuesday, June 22, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. 5) Copy of Police Officer Eligibility List dated June 1, 2004. 6) Copy of letter sent to police candidates that passed their multiple group interview. 7) Copy of letter sent to police candidates that did not pass the group interview. 8) Copy of Village Ordinance 42994 dated 5/11/2004 which authorizes: (1) the establishment of a$20.00 application processing fee for police officer and firefighter candidates, and(2) licensed paramedics to be deemed eligible as candidates for the fire department as an alternative to the current requirement MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS June 22,2004 Page Two for 60 college credit hours. 9) Letter from Police Consultants promoting their services and rates for fire service promotions. 10)Letter to police recruit advising him Power test reporting instructions. 11)Legal Insight Newsletter, Spring 2004 edition,from John Kelly. 12) Letter from Chief Schmidt regarding the schedule for the on-site assessment for CALEA accreditation. 13)Letter from Atty. Joe Mazzone regarding execution of four subpoenas on behalf of police officer. 14)Notice of Suspension dated 6/8104 issued to police officer for violating Rules and Regulations, Section 26.1.IA, Rules of Conduct, Rule 49 (failure to appear in court when scheduled), and Rule 11 (Incompetency or inefficiency in the performance of duty). OLD BUSINESS -None NEW BUSINESS -None PENDING 1) Police Officer Hiring Process--three vacancies; no authorization to replace at this time. Current eligibility list effective until June 1, 2006 2) Firefighter Hiring Process—five vacancies; no authorization to replace at this time. Current eligibility list effective until December 27, 2004. ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Shapiro that the meeting be adjourned.
