HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE & POLICE COMMISSION - 10/19/2004 - c: Village Clerk MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF FIRE.AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE HELD ON OCTOBER 19, 2004 Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village and noted for the record that the following were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro, DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke and Commissioner Michael P. Kontek. It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the minutes of September 21, 2004 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was moved upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried. PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES I. Police Consultants, Inc. Invoice 4028 dated 9/22/04 in the amount of$1000.00 for psychological evaluations for one police candidate and one fire candidate. 2. Theodore Polygraph Service Invoice 14606 dated 9/27/04 in the amount of$500.00 for polygraph examinations for four candidates. 3. Office Depot invoice 2583200718-001 dated 8/21/04 in the amount of 96.85 for office supplies. 4. Combined Graphics invoice 94780 dated 9/27/04 in the amount of$154.00 for FPC letterhead. 5. Illinois Fire & Police Commissioners Association invoice dated 10/1/04 in the amount of $375.00 for 2005 membership dues. 6. Theodore Polygraph Service, Invoice 14619 dated 10-11-04 in the amount of$750.00 for polygraph examinations for four police candidates and two firefighter candidates. It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. CORRESPONDENCE 1) Letter to John Kelly and response from John Kelly regarding review of our background information packet. 2) Confirmation letter from firefighter candidate regarding his decision to withdraw from our hiring process for the position of firefighter. 3) Notice of Suspension dated 10/5/04 issued to police officer for violating Rules and Regulations, Section 26.1.IA, Rules of Conduct, Rule 01 (Violation of any law, ordinance or Department General Order; Rule 02 (Any action or conduct which impedes the Department's efforts to achieve its goals or brings discredit upon the Department). 4) Memo from police officer announcing; his resignation effective 10/10/04. MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS October 19, 2004 Page Two 5) Memo from Chief Schmidt to Village Manager informing him of police officer's resignation. 6) Memo from police sergeant announcing his retirement effective 12/04/04. 7) Fact Sheet for the 2004 Firefighter Examination Process. 8) Letters to five police and fire candidates advising them of their scheduled individual oral interviews. 9) Letters to two police candidates requesting written confirmation of their decision to withdraw from our selection process. OLD BUSINESS -None NEW BUSINESS 1) Discussion with Dr. Mendelsohn regarding analysis of psychological results. 2) Individual oral interviews of three police candidates and one firefighter candidate. 3) Commissioners instructed secretary to contact Village Clerk to review legal requirement regarding notification of fire and police commission meetings. 4) Commissioners instructed secretary to revise background packet as per John Kelly's recommendation. 5) Commissioners instructed secretary to obtain current copies of driver's licenses for all police officers and firefighters. PENDING 1) Police Officer Hiring Process—four vacancies; authorization to replace three at this time. Fourteen names remain on the current eligibility list which will expire on June 1, 2006. 2) Firefighter Hiring Process—six vacancies; authorization to replace one at this time. Fifteen names remain on the current eligibility list which will expire on December 27, 2004. ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Shapiro that the meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m. Respectfully submitted E.
