Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:45 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building, 901
Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village and noted for the record that the following were present:
Chairman Alan J. Shapiro, DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke and Commissioner Michael P. Kontek.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the minutes of
May 10, 2005 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading
thereof. The motion was moved upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the
motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF:INVOICES
1. Police Consultants, Inc., Invoice 44189 dated 5/20/05 in the amount of$500.00 for
psychological evaluation of firefighter candidate.
2. Daily Herald, Invoice T3525578 dated 5/2/05 in the amount of$26.25 for publication
of legal notice for rescheduled meeting.
3. Police Consultants, Inc., Invoice 4181 dated 5/13/05 in the amount of$2665.00 for
administration of police sergeant written examination(23 candidates).
4. Corporate Express, Invoice 61060892 dated 5/10/05 in the amount of 176.81 for office
supplies.
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the Board
authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1) Spring 2005 edition of Legal Insights from Ottosen Trevarthen Britz Kelly & Cooper.
2) Individual letters to each police sergeant candidate advising their own score on the
written examination administered on 5/10/2005.
3) Individual letter to each police sergeant candidate advising them of the date and time of
their group interview;recap letter sent to Chief Schmidt.
4) Memo from police sergeant candidate regarding one question on the sergeant written
promotional examination.

5) Memo from Deputy Fire Chief notifying FPC of his retirement effective May 31, 2005;
congratulations letter from Chief Goostree.
6) Letter to fire candidate advising that he passed his individual oral interview on May 10,
2005.
7) Memo to Human Resources advising that firefighter hired on 5/24/2004 has
successfully completed his probationary period and should be granted permanent
employee status effective 5/24/2005.
8) Memo from police sergeant candidate requesting an alternate date for his group
interview.
9) Memo from Chief Goostree announcing the promotion of Asst. Chief to the position of
Deputy Chief effective June 1, 2005.
10)Letter to fire candidate advising him to proceed with his medical examination.
11)Memo from police sergeant candidate advising that he has traded his group interview
time slot with another candidate; memo includes signed consent of both.
12)Notice of Suspension to police officer for violating Rules and Regulations, Section
26.1.1A, Rule 46 (Failure to operate Village vehicle in a safe and prudent manner, or to
obey related traffic laws).
13)Congratulations letter to Deputy Fire Chief.
14)Retirement congratulations letter to Deputy Fire Chief retiring on May 31, 2005.
15)Notice of Suspension to police officer for violating Rules and Regulations, Section
26.].1A, Rule 49 (Failure to appear for a scheduled Felony Court date).

NEW BUSINESS
1) Group Oral Interviews for police sergeant candidates.
2) Awaiting response from PCI regarding police sergeant candidate's question.
3) Schedule Individual Oral Interview dates for police sergeant candidates.
PENDING
1) Police Officer Hiring Process—three vacancies; no authorization to replace at this time.
Two names remain on the current eligibility list scheduled to expire on June 1, 2006.
2) Firefighter Hiring Process—five vacancies plus one on military leave; authorization to
replace one at this time. Twenty-nine names remain on the current eligibility list
scheduled to expire on February 2, 2007.

ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting be
adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the
motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
