JPZ COMMITTEE MEETING
MARCH 8, 1994

PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY
The Committee discussed appropriate language to be inserted in a
Parental Responsibility Ordinance and are awaiting the Village
Attorney's advice on this matter.
The Committee also discussed the possibility of adding legislation
to include Parental Responsibility for allowing a child to gain
possession of a firearm and bring it to school. It was determined that
this type of legislation, if adopted, should be more inclusive and cover
the owner of the weapon or adult responsible for its safekeeping. It
was undetermined if this legislation should be included in the Parental
Responsibility portion of the Municipal Code (which primarily deals with
curfew and alcohol-related offenses), or in the section dealing with
firearms. This is to be discussed further.
