DRIVEWAY ORDINANCE REVISIONS
It was the consensus of the Committee to approve the
driveway ordinance revisions pertaining to brick pavers and
commercial driveways as proposed by the Director of Engineering
in his memo dated September 25, 1996 (attached) .
The Committee discussed the Village's current policy as
it relates to the restoration of driveway aprons removed or
damaged while performing Village maintenance activities.
It was the consensus of the Committee that the
Village's driveway apron replacement policy be amended to provide
the homeowner with funds equivalent to what the Village would
have paid for the restoration of a concrete driveway apron in
areas where brick paver aprons have been removed or damaged. The
Village's cost to replace the apron will be calculated based on
the bid costs the Village receives for the concrete replacement
program. The homeowner will be required to have the brick paver
block apron reinstalled and then present the bill to the Village
as proof that the apron has been replaced.
Should the homeowner decide that he/she does not wish
to replace their apron with brick pavers, then the homeowner can
direct the Village to install a concrete apron. The Committee
directed staff to amend the Hold Harmless form executed by
homeowners constructing brick paver aprons to indicate in bold
print that the Village will reimburse the homeowner for the
equivalent cost to install the apron in concrete.
