HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE PENSION - 07/19/1993 - MINUTES OF BOARD MEETING ELK GROVE FIREMEN'S PENSION FUND JULY 19, 1993 A meeting of the Firemen' s Pension Fund was held on Monday, July 19, 1993 in the Fire Dept. Administrative Offices, 901 Brantwood Avenue. The meeting was called to order by President Harvey R. Speiden at 7:09 P.M. The President stated for the record the meeting had been scheduled earlier tham usual (1st Monday in August) because of scheduled vacations of Pension Board members. ROLL CALL On Roll Call the following members were present; Harvey R. Speiden, Patricia S. Smith, Hilda H. Ingebrigtsen, James D. MacArthur, Jerry L. Norris, Patrick L. Beck, and Joseph Gardner III . Absent was; Dennis J. Gallitano and George P. Knickerbocker. Mr. Richard J. Puchalski , Attorney at Law, Pension Fund Legal Counsel was present. In attendance was Fund member Richard A. Krieger and prospective Fund member Mark W. Percudani . MINUTES Motion by P. Beck, seconded by J. Norris to accept Feburary 3, 1993 Minutes as written and dispense with their reading. Motion passed unanimously. No meeting was held on May 3, 1993 due to the lack of a Quorem. TREASURER'S REPORT Treasurer H. Ingebrigtsen submitted a Balance Sheet, Schedule of Investments and a Disbursement Register of the Firemen ' s Pension Fund as of June 30, 1993. She reviewed all three with the Board Members and explained their contents. She requested 4 Board members signatures on a NBD Bank card to check on the contents of a safety deposit box located there. Motion by J. MacArthur, seconded by J. Norris to authorize 4 signatures on the safety deposit box card. Motion passed unanimously. Motion by J. Norris, seconded by J. MacArthur to accept the Treasurer' s Report, certify the Disbursement Register and place it, the Schedule of Investments and Balance Sheet on file with the Minutes. Motion passed unanimously. The Treasurer informed the Board she had received a request of Withdrawl of funds paid into the Fund by Victor Jakobsons. Smith to certify the withdrawl of funds. Motion passed unanimously. OLD BUSINESS Secretary J. Gardner III , reported 2 retirees had written expressing their interest in the RETIREES position on the Board. He informed the Board he had run the election, sending notices and Ballots to be returned in Blank envelopes. CANVAS OF BALLOTS from APRIL 19, 1993 Retiree Election was taken: 12 Ballots Cast 11 Jerry L. Norris 1 Kenneth J. Rzeszutko Motion by P. Beck, seconded by H. Ingebrigtsen to certify the April 19, 1993 Retiree Election, Jerry L. Norris the winner, term of office 3 years, expiring April 1996. Motion passed unanimously. CANVAS OF BALLOTS from April 19, 1993 Election was taken : 49 Ballots Cast 47 Harvey R. Speiden 2 Spoiled Motion by J. Gardner III , seconded by J. Norris to certify the April 19, 1993 Election, Harvey R. Speiden the winner, term of office 3 years expiring April 1996. Motion passed unanimously. President H. Speiden reported of difficulties contacting certain prospective Fund members for their physicals even using registered mail . A discussion followed. It was decided in the future to use both registered mail and a hand delivery. MINUTES OF BOARD M -ING ELK GROVE FIREMEN' S PENSION FUND JULY 19, 1993 Page 3 APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP The Secretary read aloud excerpts from David L. Spencer. M.D. satating MARK W. PERCUDANI does not have any increased risks if he takes a job as a fireman than the average individual . Motion by J. Norris, seconded by P. Beck to accept MARK W. PERCUDANI into the Pension Fund subject to the receipt of a proper Application to the Fund and all necessary documentation. Motion passed unanimously. In review , accepted provisionally into the Pension Fund. MARK W. PERCUDANI EFFECTIVE AUGUST 10, 1992 OLD BUSINESS J. MacArthur reported to Board members of a Nat' l Fire & Police Pension Fund Asso. Conference being held Oct. 20 through Oct. 23, 1993, The Secretary was directed to make copies and distribute to all Board Members. Anyone interested to contact the Secretary. Motion by P. Beck, seconded by J . Norris to authorize two members to attend, registration paid by the Fund. Motion passed unanimously. Motion by J. Gardner III , seconded by P. Beck to nominate: HARVEY R. SPEIDEN PRESIDENT JERRY L. NORRIS : VICE-PRESIDENT Motion by J. Gardner III , seconded by H. Speiden to nominate: PATRICK L. BECK SECRETARY Both motions passed unanimously. The Secretary was instructed to cast one unanimous ballot for the above offices. Therefore the above officers are declared elected. The President thanked J. Gardner III for his years as Secretary and noted he had been Secretary of the Pension Fund since first day on the Board in May 1933• And he felt the men and women on the Fire Dept. appreciated his dedication and efforts on their behalf and wished him well on his upcoming retirement.
