HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE PENSION - 05/05/1997 - h1 / MINUTES OF BOARD MEETING Crf ilil ELK GROVE FIREMEN'S PENSION FUND MAY 05, 1997 Page 1 of 2 A meeting of the Fireman's Pension Fund was held on Monday,May 5, 1997 in the Fire Dept Administrative Offices, 901 Brantwood Ave. The meeting was called to order by President Patrick L. Beck at 7:11 pm. ROLL CALL On Roll Call the following members were present; Patrick L. Beck,Jerry Norris, Hilda Ingebrigtsen, Richard T. Dugan, James D. MacArthur. Absent were; George P. Knickerbocker, Patricia S. Smith, Craig B. Johnson. Mr. Richard J. Puchalski, Attorney at Law,Pension Fund Legal Counsel was present. Note: Pat Beck called out 3 min. into meeting for fire call, returned at 7:20 PM. Richard Krieger present at meeting 7:15 PM. MINUTES Motion by Jerry Norris, seconded by Hilda Ingelbrigtsen to accept the minutes of Jan. 16, 1997 with the exception of changing the date of 1996 to the correct date of 1997, & dispensing with their reading. Motion passed unanimously. TREASURER'S REPORT Treasurer H. Ingebrigtsen submitted a Balance Sheet, Schedule of Investments, and a Disbursement Register of the Firemen's Pension Fund of March 31, 1997. She reviewed all three with the Board Members and explained their contents. A motion by Rich Dugan & seconded by Rick Krieger to accept the Treasurers Report. Motion passed unanimously. OLD BUSZMSS A motion was made by Rich Dugan &seconded by James MacArthur to accept Marc Skawronskii into the pension fund. Motion passed unanimously. On the T&burg case: The court ruled with the Pension Board that Mr. Turnburg should have been granted a Non Duty Disability Pension. It was also ruled that Mr. Turnburg's pension should have started on Oct. 20, 1993. A motion was made by Jerry Norris to go along with the courts ruling to pay Mr, Turnburg from Oct. 20, 1993 in the amount of 22,965. Seconded by Rich Krieger. After a long discussion in which the Board did not agree philosophically with the decision of the judge to give Mr. Turnburg his pension as of Oct. 20, 1993 it was felt by the members of the Board that it was in the best interest of the Pension to do so. Motion passed unanimously. Page 2 of 2 A motion was made by James MacArthur& seconded by Jerry Norris that if Mr. Tumburg was to file an appeal on this ruling a cross appeal would be filed. Motion passed unanimously. It was determined that a check would be sent to Mr. Turnburg when all the other pension checks are sent out at the end of the month. A canvas of the ballots was made for the election of Pat Beck who ran in a non contested election for the position of trustee. He received 42 votes. There were 2 spoiled votes & I missing vote. A motion was made by James MacArthur& seconded by Jerry Norris to certify the results of the election. The motion passed unanimously. Congratulations on another three years Pat! New Pension books were made up & copies will be distributed. Motion by Jerry Norris & seconded by Rich Dugan to approve sponsoring a seminar by the state should they request one. Motion passed unanimously. NEW BUSINESS Pat Beck nominated Jerry Norris for Vice President&Richard Dugan for Secretary, seconded by Rick Krieger. James MacArthur nominated Pat Beck for President, seconded by Rich Dugan. Motion passed unanimously. A JOINT Motion by Jerry Norris, Seconded by James MacArthur, to adjourn.
