FOREIGN FIRE INSURANCE BOARD SPECIAL MEETING
NOV. 14, 2002
In attendance: Fordon, Haverland, D. Miller, Sharp, Reid, Rogers
Absent: Cotte, Jamrozek, MacArthur, Quinlan, Skowronski
Sitting in: Bonilla, Ferguson, Lamka
Meeting started: 19:00 hrs.
October minutes approved
ELECTION RESULTS---FFIB elections held Nov.11-1301 resulted in three
more ballots than signatures. In addition, six ballots were spoiled because the voters
selected candidates from each of the three shifts and not their personal shift for calendar
year 2003. A second election will be held on Nov.18-2&, 2002.
PHYSICAL FITNESS---D.Miller asks about status of Nejedlo re-imbursement
for physical fitness program. The program was discussed at the regular October meeting
with no resolution made.
The FFIB agreed to focus this special meeting on new budget items due to time
constraints.
NEW BUDGET ITEMS
1. Document scanners—$150.00 x 4 stations. Meets criteria and approved
2. Sweatshirts—Meets criteria. At this time this item should be presented
through the clothing committee.
3. Communications van—Meets criteria, voted down
4. Mission statement carpets—Meets criteria and approved. Approx. $150.00
for each of five locations.
5. Bronze firefighters statue---Approx. $20,000.00. Meets criteria, voted down
6. Reverse 9-1-1—Did not meet criteria
7. Warning pagers for hearing impaired—Did not meet criteria
8. Haz-mat communications units--Already in regular budget
9. Baseball type public education cards--Keenan to follow up with public
education budget.
10. Spare lap top computer for vehicles—to be used when regular rig computer
is out for repair. Meets criteria, not approved.
11. Bobcat& trailer—Approx. $45,000.00. Meets criteria, not approved
12. Custom dive van--Approx. $75,000.00--$130,000.00. Believed to have
been turned down once in regular fire department budget. Meets criteria, approved.
13. Safety sunglasses--Meets criteria, approved but also needs chief's approval.
14. Station footwear—Meets criteria. Needs chief's input regarding acceptable
choices and a majority of the members approving the footwear choices. Approx.
$150.00/per pair.
15. Cotton socks—Meets criteria, sent to clothing committee.
16. Bedding—Sheets and pillow cases. This item was supplied to personnel in
the past. Meets criteria, sent to clothing committee.
17. Towel service—Locker room towel service. Meets criteria, approved
18. DVD players--done.
19. Retirement rings—Fails to meet criteria
20. Wallet badges—Fails to meet criteria
21. Heavyweight dumbbells—Done
22. Preacher style weight bench—Meets criteria, approved
23. Additional A/C for basement of station 7—A/C problem has been
resolved.
24. Color coded vehicle marking stickers---Meets criteria, approved. Rogers
doing research.
25. Personal spanner wrenches—Sent to tools committee.
26. Security cameras for stations—Withdrawn
27. Two-way pagers--FFIB is advised that Lynn Cox states we are upgrading
pager system. Withdrawn
28. Investigator's generator/lighting system---Several spare generators are at
station 10 and could be used. Withdrawn.
29. Center steering for rescue boat--Meets criteria but withdrawn due to age of
boat.
30. Recognition plaque---Approx. $2,000.00 per board. Could include painting
and names of retired members on a wooden plaque. Meets criteria, approved. Haverland
to research.
Rogers states he will see that previously funded items, i.e., tuition program,
computer maintenance, a/v fund and clerical/publications will also be included in the
budget proposal. All budget items must be in by November 21, 2002.
