OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE,OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON AUGUST 23,2016
Chairman E. Butch Ehrke called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek
Building, 901 Wellington Avenue,Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the
following members were present: Chairman E. Butch Ehrke and Secretary Michael Kontek.
Guests and staff present: Michelle Jin, Lauren Linares and Debbie Weber.
Secretary Kontek moved that the minutes of the July 26, 2016 meeting be approved as
submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. Commissioner Ehrke
seconded the motion. It was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Ehrke declared
the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Invoice 2144 from Conrad Polygraph Inc. dated 8/01/2016 in the amount of$320.00
for polygraph examinations for PC49 and PC53.
2. Invoice 34288 from The B1ueLine dated 8/05/2016 in.the amount of$496.00 for
publication of internet advertisement for police officer written examination.
3. Invoice T4448683 from the Daily Herald dated 8/10/2016 in the amount of$973.00
for advertisement of police officer written examination.
Chairman Ehrke moved that the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment.
Secretary Kontek seconded the motion. It was voted upon by acclamation whereupon
Chairman Ehrke declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Notice of Meeting Change. The regular meeting of the Board of Fire and Police
Commissioners was changed from August 16,2016 to August 23, 2016.
2. Notice of Suspension issued to Police Officer for violating Rules and Regulations of
the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.1A, Rules of Conduct, Rule 02
(Any action or conduct which impedes the Department's effort to achieve its goals or
brings discredit upon the Department); and Rule 11 (Inefficiency in the Performance
of Duty). Two-day suspension to be served August 10-11, 2016.
3. Memo from Chief Schmidt to the Commission regarding the CALEA on-site
assessment scheduled to take place the week of August 14, 2016.
4. Memo from Chief Schmidt to Village Manager requesting that the Fire &Police
Commission hire candidates to fill five police officer vacancies. Village Manager's
approval is noted in margin.
5. Email from Police Candidate regarding preference points for computer science degree.
6. Memo from Deputy Police Chief requesting extension of probationary period for
police officer.

OLD BUSINESS
1. Discussed police officer hiring process.
2. Discussed firefighter hiring process.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Discussed candidate status.
2. Discussed email from police candidate regarding preference points. Points are not
awarded for computer science degrees. Per our hiring packet,preference points are
only awarded for police related degrees.
3. Discussed extension of probationary period for police officer. Probationary period
will be extended an additional two weeks. The final probationary review scheduled to
take place on September 20,2016 will be moved to the Commission's next regularly
scheduled meeting on October 18, 2016.
ELIGIBILITY LIST
I. Firefighter—Eligibility list containing 109 names will expire on 09/14/2017.
2. Fire Lieutenant—Nine names appear on the eligibility list scheduled to expire on
11/09/2017.
3. Police Officer—The amended list dated 6/21/2016 has 13 names remaining and is
scheduled to expire on 12/27/2016.
4. Police Sergeant—Four names remain on the list scheduled to expire on 07/07/2018.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Chairman Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting be
adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Ehrke declared
the motion carried. Meeting adjourned 6:45 p.m.
