OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON JUNE 21,2016
Chairman E. Butch Ehrke called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek
Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village,and noted for the record that the
following members were present: Chairman E. Butch Ehrke, Secretary Michael Kontek and
Commissioner Dion Zinnel. Guests present: Chief Steve Schmidt, Deputy Chief Chuck
Walsh and Fire Chief Richard Mikel.
Secretary Kontek moved that the minutes of the May 17,2016 meeting be approved as
submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. Commissioner Zinnel
seconded the motion. It was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Ehrke declared
the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Invoice 2066 dated 5/31/2016 in the amount of$160.00 from Conrad Polygraph for
polygraph examination for firefighter candidate(FC15).
2. Invoice dated 5/31/2016 from Illinois State Police in the amount of$29.75 for
fingerprinting firefighter candidate(FC 16).
Commissioner Zinnel moved that the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment.
Secretary Kontek seconded the motion. It was voted upon by acclamation whereupon
Chairman Ehrke declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Memo from Chief Mikel regarding the performance of Probationary firefighters
Mauricio Galarza,Michael Beyer, Zachary Schlott and Brian Johnson. Chief Mikel
states that these firefighters are performing at appropriate levels and his
recommendation is to grant them permanent employee status.
2. Memo from Chief Schmidt regarding the six-month performance of Probationary
Police Officer Eric Guzik.
3. Memo to HR Director advising that Ofc. Thomas Kure has successfully completed his
one-year probationary period and should be granted permanent employee status
effective 6/19/2016.
4. Notice of Retirement from Officer Patrick Evans effective 6/16/2016.
5. Resignation letter from Officer Anatoli Mironov effective 05/16/2016.
6. Letter to Candidate Nicholas Iossi appointing him to the rank of Firefighter effective
06/27/2016.

7. Letter to Candidate Clint Woods appointing him to the rank of Police Officer effective
07/05/2016.
8. Contract from Township High School District 214 for use of the Elk Grove High
School facility for our police officer written examination on Sunday,November 20,
2016.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Meeting with Chief Schmidt to discuss police officer hiring process.
2. Discuss firefighter opening.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Conducted individual oral interview for firefighter candidate 16.Job offer was
extended pending satisfactory psychological and medical evaluations.
2. Conducted one group oral interview for entry level police officer candidates.
3. Conducted probationary reviews: Six-month review for Probationary Officer Eric
Guzik and final reviews for Probationary Firefighters Mauricio Galarza,Michael
Beyer,Zachary Schlott and Brian Johnson.
ELIGIBILTTY LIST
1. Firefighter—Eligibility list containing 109 names will expire on 09/14/2017.
2. Fire Lieutenant—Nine names appear on the eligibility list scheduled to expire on
11/09/2017.
3. Police Officer—The amended list dated 6/21/2016 has 16 names remaining and is
scheduled to expire on 12/27/2016.
4. Police Sergeant—Four names remain on the list scheduled to expire on 07/07/2018.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Zinnel and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting
be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Ehrke
declared the motion carried. Meeting adjourned 7:00 p.m.
