OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON MAY 17,2016
Chairman E.Butch Ehrke called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek
Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village,and noted for the record that the
following members were present: Chairman E. Butch Ehrke, Secretary Michael Kontek and
Commissioner Dion Zinnel. Guests present: Chief Steve Schmidt, Deputy Chief Chuck
Walsh and Chief Richard Mikel.
Secretary Kontek moved that the minutes of the April 1.7, 2016 meeting be approved as
submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. Commissioner Zinnel
seconded the motion. It was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Ehrke declared
the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Invoice dated 4/30/16 from the Illinois State Police in the amount of$29.75 for
fingerprinting firefighter candidate(FC 14).
2. Invoice 1994 dated 4/3/2016 in the amount of$320.00 from Conrad Polygraph, Inc.
for polygraph examinations for two firefighter candidates (FC 12 and FC 13).
3. Invoice 2034 dated 5/2/16 in the amount of$320.00 from Conrad Polygraph, Inc. for
polygraph examinations for two candidates (PC46 and FC 14).
4. Invoice 31255 dated 4/29/16 in the amount of$790.00 from Stanard&Associates for
psychological evaluations for two candidates (PC46 and FC 12).
CORRESPONDENCE
I. Memo from Chief Schmidt regarding the performance of Probationary Police Officer
Thomas Kure along with his recommendation to grant permanent employee status.
2. Memo dated 4/22/2016 from Chief Schmidt announcing the retirement of Officer Paul
Petri effective 6/16/2016.
3. Email from Chief Mikel announcing the promotion of Lt. Clinton Cunz to the rank of
Battalion Chief, and the promotion of Firefighter David Hoppe to the rank of
Lieutenant effective 5/16/2016.
4. Copy of memo from Chief Schmidt to Commander Michael Gaspari appointing him to
the rank of Deputy Chief effective 5/09/2016.
5. Memo from Chief Schmidt dated 4/27/2016 announcing the appointment of Sgt.
Andrew Jensen to the rank of Commander effective 5/09/2016.
6. Memo from Chief Schmidt dated 4/28/2016 requesting that the Fire and Police
Commission promote Officer John Bazukas to the rank of Sergeant effective
05/09/2016.
7. Memo from Chief Schmidt dated 5/11/2016 announcing the retirement of Officer
Michael Ryan effective 5/25/2016.

8. Letter to Police Officer John Bazukas appointing him to the rank of Police Sergeant
effective 05/09/2016.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Meeting with Chief Schmidt and Deputy Chief Walsh to discuss personnel and the
police officer hiring process.
2. Meeting with Chief Mikel to discuss firefighter hiring process.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Conducted final probationary review for Officer Thomas Kure.
2. Conducted individual oral interviews(FC 14 and FC 15). Fire candidate 14 was offered
employment pending satisfactory completion of psychological and medical
evaluations. Fire candidate 15 was disqualified.
ELIGIBILITY LIST
1. Firefighter—Eligibility list containing 109 names will expire on September 14,2017.
2. Fire Lieutenant—Nine names appear on the eligibility list scheduled to expire on
November 9,2017.
3. Police Officer—New eligibility list published 5/02/2016 containing six names. The
list is scheduled to expire on 12/27/2016.
4. Police Sergeant—Four names remain on the list scheduled to expire on July 7, 2018.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Zinnel and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting
be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Ehrke
declared the motion carried. Meeting adjourned 7:15 p.m.
