Minutes Village of Elk Grove Board of Health December 5, 1989 The regular meeting of the Elk Grove Village Board of Health was called to order at 7:35 p.m. , by Pat McHale, Chairman, in Meeting Room C of the Village Hall. Board Members Present Board Members Absent Pat McHale, Chairman Pat Briggs Pat Bourke Ray Dean Dr. Kelly Ray DePalma Dr. Labinsky Dave Dopp Jim Rubly Staff Present Nancy Yiannias Mike Cavallini The minutes of the November 7, 1989, meeting were approved with one correction. Mike Cavallini was present at the October 3rd meeting. I. Old Business A. Nursing Position The presentation for the nursing position will be incor- porated in the 1990-91 Budget. Letters of support will be requested from Alexian Brothers Medical Center (Larry Harmon) ; the Elk Grove Village Senior Center (Shiela Ray) the Elk Grove Mental Health Center Senior Program (Barbara Meier); and Ancilla Home Health Care. An estimated hourly salary rate for a nurse meeting the job description should be around $18 - $19 per hour. The proposal will also include specific duties of the nurse, which are included in the job description. B. Recycling Program - Yard Waste Update Two new grant cycles will be coming up in February and the Spring. A final plan will be made for the Village yard waste and recycling programs so State monies can be requested through the Department of Energy & Natural Resources. The Health Department and Garden City will be meeting in December to formulate the plan. - 2 - The last request for monies from the Department of Energy & Natural Resources was rejected. Nothing has been heard from the letter of intent sent to the Chicago Community Trust. The leaf program was very successful and may be expanded to cover the rest of the Village next year. C. Access to Care Update 1, 100 people have signed up for Access to Care in the North- west suburbs to date. The program has been very well received and demonstrates a real need for the medically indigent in the Northwest suburbs. Governor Thompson has called for a Summit meeting to discuss, evaluate, and assess the problem of access to health care of the medically indigent population. Pat McHale will be giving testimony at this meeting - to make the conferees aware of the problem in this area. D. Inspector's Position The transfer of the Housing Maintenance Program to Engineering and Community Development has been temporarily postponed. The Health Department is waiting for direction from Mr. Willis as to when the transfer will be made and what will be done with personnel. II. Routine Reports A. Coordinator's Report 26 children were given 42 shots at the November 21st Clinic. The last Flu Shot Clinic was held tonight. Final figures will be given at the January Meeting. Sanitarian's Report November 1989 Two restaurants opened within the last month - Baker's Square and Portillos. There have been some problems with refuse containers at a few restaurants in the area. Citations have been issued to curb this problem.
