Minutes of the June 2, 1992, Meeting were approved. I. Old Business A. Recycling Bench The Health Department was able to find a park bench made totally of recycled material for an excellent price ($235) from an Elk Grove Village Company. Pat Bourke moved that the bench be purchased and placed on Park District Property (Gazebo area) . The motion was recorded by Dr. Kelly and unanimously approved. A plaque will also be ordered to place on the bench. This price does not include the plaque nor the footings and placement of the bench. B. Wildlife Permit The Health Department received their Wildlife permit from the Illinois Department of Conservation. New forms have been prepared with new instructions as to the release of animals caught in traps. The Health Department is waiting for a decision from the Police Department regarding the euthanizing of skunks, which is required by the Illinois Department of Conservation. The Board of Health also suggested that a liability disclaimer clause be added to the trap "rental" form releasing the Village of any liability which could be incurred while the trap is in the borrower's possession. II. Routine Reports A. Coordinator's Report -- Immunization Clinic 160 children received 384 shots at the June 22nd Clinic. -- OHSA Standards Regarding Hepatitis B (Bloodborne Pathogen Regulations) The Health Department has been working closely with Administration and the Fire, Police & Public Works Departments regarding the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens (Hepatitis B) regulations. The Fire Department has a comprehensive program in conjunction with area Fire Departments and Northwest Community Hospital. The Police Department will be receiving training from the Elk Grove Village Health Department nurse and shots from Alexian Brothers Medical Center. Public Works is currently opposed to participating in the program because they feel their employees are not at risk. All above departments have met and discussed what is and will be done to be in compliance with the OHSA regulations which will be enforced by the Illinois Department of Labor. The Health Department has strongly recommended that certain employees from Public Works (those exposed to blood and/or bodily fluids) be included in the training session given by the Village Nurse. Administration is encouraging them to participate. Dr. Boyajian moved that Public Works employees at risk of being exposed to Bloodborne pathogens and bodily secretions fall under the OSHA guidelines and should have a plan as dictated by OSHA. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously. Pat Bourke moved that the Board of Health go into executive session at 8:30 p.m. , to discuss litigation. It was seconded by Dr. Boyajian and passed unanimously. The Board of Health resumed the regular session at 9:00 p.m. Lending Closet Homex received a number of calls and has loaned out 6 items to date since June 19, 1992. B. III. New Business A. Immunization Clinic The Board of Health will review the Immunization Clinic procedures and participation rates at the September '92 Board of Health Meeting. B. Fire Department Paramedics The Board of Health would like to invite someone from the paramedic division of the Fire Department to give the Board information on their program. They would like to discuss the types of cases they pick up and any trends they are seeing. Perhaps the Health Department could take some proactive preventive action.
