Operation Heart Beat The American Heart Association (AHA) video "When Every Second Counts" was presented at the meeting. The video dealt with sudden cardiac arrest and the need for early defibrillation. Defibrillation would be carried out by portable defibrillators (AEDS) that could be placed in a wide variety of locations, and be used by a wide variety of responders (police, security guards, etc). The Board requested additional information be provided by the Health Coordinator including, How many AEDS would be needed and who would be trained? Are they not available in high risk areas such as fitness center, senior housing, nursing homes, hotel/motels? Do state laws cover responders using these devices (good samaritan law)? Is the Elk Grove Fire Department equipped with AEDS or equivalent, and how often is CPR taught to residents. Also review programs in surrounding communities if available. Wellness Program Flyers touting the Employee Wellness Program are scheduled to be included in employee paychecks on April 23, 1999. May 1, 1999 is the scheduled kickoff date to begin the health risk assessment. Blood Drive For this blood drive no reminder cars will be sent to the entire Village population. The blood drive will be promoted through Channel 6, community sign board, and flyers distributed by Cub Scouts. Park District—Farmer's Market The Village met with the Park District representatives to discuss the Park District hosting a farmer's market. The Health Department requested certain food handling issues be addressed. Meat Truck A wholesale meat delivery truck was put cut of business for illegal transportation and sale of frozen meats door to door. Trash House Health Services were called out to a home on Smethwick by the Elk Grove Village Fire Department. Unsanitary conditions were found in the house. The Community Nurse and Environmental Health Inspectors are working with the homeowner to assist in clean up and to provide personal services. Steven Curatti Resignation Steven Curatti, Environmental Health Inspector and Village Sanitarian with the Health Department for nine years is leaving to take a position with the Kendall County Health Department. He will assume the position of Environmental Health Supervisor. Steve will be missed by the Health Department. The Board of Health would like to go on record to thank Steve for his professionalism and dedication to the Village, and wish him well in his new endeavor.
