Y2K
A question was raised regarding the Village's preparations for Y2K. The Health Coordinator
stated that all Village Departments have met to discuss their responsibilities in the event that a
Y2K problem occurs. The main focus is to provide basic services to the residents. The Police,
Fire and Public Works Departments will provide the bulk of the manpower. The Health
Department's responsibility was to ensure that local supermarkets were prepared to provide basic
staples (milk, water, etc.) and that the hospital will be prepared (they will be) for any emergency
associated with Y2K.
Summer Intern
Larry Anselmo, the Summer Intern was introduced to the board members. Larry is finishing up
his degree at Eastern Illinois University.
Nurse's Report
The Community Nurse's report included an incident involving an infant with bacterial
meningitis. This infant had been in the care of a daycare center in the Village. The Community
Nurse was contacted by the daycare facility to ensure that they had taken the necessary steps to
disinfect the center. Cook County Health Department and the daycare's internal infection control
did not offer any direction. Kelly Clancy will check into cook County Health Department
reporting procedures.
Farmers Market
The Farmers Market is set to begin June 30'. The market will be at the Elk Grove Park District
Farm House. The Farmers Market is set to run from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. every Wednesday
thru August.
Medical Waste—ABMC
The Health Department continues to monitor the medical waste disposal at ABMC. A question
was raised about the incinerator. At the present time it is not in operation. ABMC is
investigating the possibility of meeting the EPA requirements for emissions or continuing to
farm medical waste out to a private hauler.
