HomeMy WebLinkAboutBOARD OF HEALTH - 06/16/1999 - MINUTES Board of Health E C E 1 V EG' Village of Elk Grove Village AUG 19 1999 June 16, 1949 VI((AGE CLERK'S OFFICE The regular meeting of the Elk Grove Village Board of Health was called to order at 7:06 p.m. Board Members Present Board Members Absent James Christie, Chairman William Beaupre Susan Baker John Bosslett Kelly Clancy Dr. Charles Boyajian Lois Colaprete Terri Dill Ray DePalma Merrill Froney Dr. John Kelly Dr. Harold Labinsky Staff Present Michael Cavallini, Health Coordinator Stan Ciezczak, Environmental Health Inspector Larry Anselmo, Summer Intern The minutes from the May 19,1999 meeting were approved by unanimous vote. Environmental Health Inspector Stan Ciezczak, the new Environmental Health Inspector was introduced to the Board of Health. Stan is a graduate of Northern Illinois University, and is licensed as a Environmental Health Practitioner with the State of Illinois. Stan worked for two years with DuPage County Health Department prior to coming to Elk Grove Village. Y2K A question was raised regarding the Village's preparations for Y2K. The Health Coordinator stated that all Village Departments have met to discuss their responsibilities in the event that a Y2K problem occurs. The main focus is to provide basic services to the residents. The Police, Fire and Public Works Departments will provide the bulk of the manpower. The Health Department's responsibility was to ensure that local supermarkets were prepared to provide basic staples (milk, water, etc.) and that the hospital will be prepared (they will be) for any emergency associated with Y2K. Summer Intern Larry Anselmo, the Summer Intern was introduced to the board members. Larry is finishing up his degree at Eastern Illinois University. Nurse's Report The Community Nurse's report included an incident involving an infant with bacterial meningitis. This infant had been in the care of a daycare center in the Village. The Community Nurse was contacted by the daycare facility to ensure that they had taken the necessary steps to disinfect the center. Cook County Health Department and the daycare's internal infection control did not offer any direction. Kelly Clancy will check into cook County Health Department reporting procedures. Farmers Market The Farmers Market is set to begin June 30'. The market will be at the Elk Grove Park District Farm House. The Farmers Market is set to run from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. every Wednesday thru August. Medical Waste—ABMC The Health Department continues to monitor the medical waste disposal at ABMC. A question was raised about the incinerator. At the present time it is not in operation. ABMC is investigating the possibility of meeting the EPA requirements for emissions or continuing to farm medical waste out to a private hauler.
