Village of Elk Grove Village
January 19, 2000
The regular meeting of the Elk Grove Village Board of Health was called to order at 7:11 p.m.

The minutes from the November 17, 1999 meeting were approved by unanimous vote.
Environmental Health Inspector
Thomas McMahan was introduced to the Board of Health by the Health Coordinator. Tom
began his employment with the Village on January 10'". Tom has worked the past four years for
the DuPage County Health Department.
Community Health Nurse
A Community Health nurse has now been hired. Jane Sloger will start work on January 31".
Jane worked for Northwest Community Hospital prior to accepting the Village position. Jane is
licensed Registered Nurse and has a Masters Degree in Community Nursing.
2000-2001 Budeet
The 2000-2001 budget was included in the Board of Health packet. No major changes or capital
items were included in next years budget. The Health Coordinator has already undergone his
budget review with the Village Manager with only minor changes made to the overall Health
Services budget. Review by the Village Board will occur sometime in March.
Animal Control/Coyotes
A lengthy discussion took place regarding wildlife in Village, especially coyotes. Since the
beginning of the year, the Village has received numerous complaints about coyotes. The Health
and Police Departments have both investigated many of the complaints, but have not confirmed
any actual hann done to people or pets. An active coyote population has existed for many years
in Busse Woods. No one knows why they moving into the residential areas. Thanks to urging
by the Village, a study of the coyote populations will be conducted in Busse Woods sometime
this year.
Employee Wellness Program
Now that the Community Nurse is aboard, Health Services will be conducting employee health
screenings at the first phase of the Employee Wellness Program. Blood pressure will most likely
be the initial health parameter, the program will address.
Lightning Detectors
At the November meeting, the Board of Health passed a motion to approach the Park District
about installing lightning detectors at various athletic fields. The park district is currently
reviewing the installation of lightning detectors. The Health Coordinator will follow up with
Barbara Heller, director of the park district over the next few months.
