Dr. Harold Labinsky was present at the August 16, 2000 meeting. Employee Wellness Program During September, the Health Department will screen all employees for TB. A"Wellness Walk" is scheduled for October 20". Employees will walk approximately 2.0 miles, then be treated to health snacks and drinks. Employees participating will be eligible for a raffle prize. This is a kickoff for the "Winter Wellness Program". Non-Compliant Restaurant The Health Coordinator presented an overview of enforcement activities against a non-compliant restaurant. The Health Coordinator may revoke a health permit if required. Board of Health recommendation to the Village Board is required if a business license is revoked. The non- compliant restaurant has contacted a private consultant to conduct training and audits to improve sanitation and food handling procedures. Health permit revocation is still an option if the restaurant fails to improve. Mobil Food Vendor Hearin On September 141h, the Village Attorney and Health Department held a hearing for a mobile food vending company because of repeated violations. On several occasions, an unlicensed driver was found operating in the Village. Temperature and labeling violations were also found. The outcome was a$400.00 fine and probation for 3 months. If no violations are found, the fine will be reduced to $100.00 Flu Clinics The fall flu clinic schedule is set. Because of the shortage of flu vaccine this year, the clinics will not start until October 30' and will end in November. Kenneth Young Center Kenneth Young Center celebrated its 30°i year servicing the community on September 15'. It is interesting to note that the Kenneth Young Center started an outgrowth of Elk Grove Village Community Services. Household Hazardous Waste The Village will be co-hosting a Household Hazardous Waste event on October 28"', at the Army Reserve Base on Central Road in Arlington Heights. AED'S The Village has received a $108,000 grant from the State of Illinois to purchase Automated External Defibrillators. All police cars will be equipped with these units. Environmental Health Inspector's Report Krispy Kreme Donut's is planning to open later this year. It will be located on Devon near the VFW Post. This opening has generated a great deal of excitement in the Village and surrounding area. August 2000 Routine Inspections 184 Complaints 113 Citations 23 TOTAL 320 Community Health Nurse Report Senior Council Proposal The Health Services Coordinator presented a proposal by the Community Health Nurse and Community Services Coordinator to form a Senior Council in Elk Grove Village. The council would be comprised of service organizations and agencies that provide services to the senior population. Ray DePalma made a motion to proceed with the formation of the council. Merrill Froney seconded the motion. The entire Board approved the motion. Village Manager approval is required before proceeding. Use of Prevnar A childhood vaccine to prevent pneumococcal disease is now available. To date, Hoffman Estates, Arlington Heights, and Cook County Health Departments offer this vaccine at their clinics. It is available from the Illinois Department of Public Health. Dr. Boyajian would like to have the Health Department setup guidelines for administering the vaccine. Jane Sloger, Community Health Nurse will present her recommendations at the October meeting.
