Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the October meeting were approved by unanimous vote.
Wellness Program
The Community Health Nurse brought the Board up to date on the activities being planned by
the Wellness Committee. A lecture "stressless holidays", presented by the Kenneth Young
Center, is planned for December 7`h. For the year 2001 the committee is planting a newsletter
every other month alternating with a wellness activity.
Lois Colaprete requested that the minutes reflect appreciation to the Nurse for extending services
to offsite locations i.e. Police, Fire, Public Works.
Mobile Food Vending Hearing
On November 9, 2000, two hearings were held at the Village Municipal Complex representing
two mobile vending companies. These hearings were a result on the continuous repeat of
violations found during mobile vendor field inspections. Both companies were placed on
probation and the drivers are no longer welcome to work in our town. The Health Department
will continue to aggressively enforce these rules and regulations regarding mobile vending
vehicles.
Budget 2001-2002
The Health Department is looking into the possibility of adding a part-time staff position to aid
in the growing numbers of inspections in Elk Grove. Our town is grown to levels that have
provided a substantial increase in both inspections and complaints. The addition of a part-timer
will allow the Health Department the time and ability to become more proactive on Village
programs. These programs include the residential and industrial revitalization program, garbage
and debris complaints, grass and weed complaints, animal trapping program, and a variety of
other programs that are continuously growing and are requiring much more attention. This
addition would then free up the Environmental Health Inspectors to concentrate on other vital
programs, like the food program. A justification was put together and will be included in this
upcoming budget.
Household Hazardous Waste
A household hazardous waste event was held in Arlington Heights on October 28, 2000. This
was one of the largest events the IEPA has had so far. We had about 3,000 cars representing
around 3,800 households. Many inspectors and Health Officials from surrounding
neighborhoods came out to volunteer at the event. Our joint efforts proved to be a success and
we look forward to our future events.
Flu Clinics
The last flu clinic is scheduled for November 2151 at the library. Jane informed the Board that
approximately 120 doses have been retained for that clinic. The clinic at the Pavillion was
limited to 200 vaccines in order to have some vaccine available for the library site.
