Stanley Ciezczak, Environmental Health Inspector was introduced to the Board of Health members. Pot-bellied Pie Update The Health Coordinator presented a letter to the Village Manager requesting changes to the Animal Control Ordinance regarding the definitions of livestock and poultry that was passed at the August Board of Health meeting. The resident that requested changes to the present ordinance to be able to keep a pot-bellied pig removed the animal from her home and will not contest the Animal Control Ordinance. Health Department Jurisdiction As the result of a possible case(s) of Giardia at Rainbow Falls, the Board of Health voiced concerns over the Health Department's authority to regulate health violations at E G Park District facilities. Because of this concern the Health Coordinator sent a memo to the Village Manager and met with the Village Attorney to discuss this issue. The Village Attorney felt that the Health Department could mediate a serious health violation if the situation warranted such action. The Board of Health members did pass a motion to develop a protocol for sampling pool water or patron contact surfaces for Giardia in a pool facility. West Nile Virus The Health Coordinator presented an overview of the current information on West Nile virus in the Chicagoland area. The Health Department sent two (2) dead crows to the State of Illinois for testing. Information on West Nile virus was also distributed. Code Enforcement Insoector The Part-time Code Enforcement Inspector started on August 27' He will work an average of eight (8) hours a week, and will handle majority of the complaints that the Health Department receives each year. TB Testing and Enforcement Fee Increases The requested changes to the TB requirements have not been addressed. The Health Department enforcement fee increases have been placed on the JPZ agenda. Employee Wellness Program The wellness committee will be hosting a"wellness walk" on October 19`h. T-shirts will be distributed to participating employees. A copy of the current "Wellness Newsletter"was also distributed. Health Department Brochures Three new brochures developed by the Health Department were presented to the Board. The brochures dealt with mosquitoes, insect repellants, and bees & wasps. Blood Drive The Health Department will hold the regularly scheduled blood drive on November P. Senior Provider Council The Senior Health Fair was held on August 25`h. Approximately 275 seniors attended the 4-hour program. Because of the success of this fair the Council will make it a yearly event. Jim Christie raised concerns regarding the emergency information sheet. The sheet may allow a person(s) to use seniors' personal information. Blood Awards Currently the Village presents blood donors who have donated 1 gallon or more with a plaque. With 476 residents now eligible for plaques this could cost the Village over $10,000.00 (average plaque cost $25.00). The Health Coordinator asked the Board to consider other methods of recognition (T-shirts, coffee mugs, etc.). Members asked for examples/pricing of such items. The possibility of an honor roll to be placed in the Village Hall was also explored. Household Hazardous Waste One more HHW event will be held in the area on October 13'h at Maine East Township High School from 8:OOAM to 3:OOPM. Environmental Health Inspector's Report Stanley Ciezczak, Environmental Health Inspector gave an overview of August activities including the Giardia investigation, new restaurants opening or proposed, and the continued problem with mobile food vendors.
