Legislation Regarding Mosquito Abatement Districts Proposed legislation in Springfield (HB 2549) would abolish all four-mosquito abatement districts in suburban Cook County and combine them under the Cook County Department of Public Health. The Village is against this legislation and has sent a letter to our State Senator asking not to support this bill. The Northwest Mosquito Abatement District (NWMAD)was formed by a voter referendum in 1956, and has done an excellent job at controlling mosquitoes in our area. If NWMAD bwame part of the Cook County bureaucru_y their budget would be placed into a larger"Local Public Health Tax"which would be used for a variety of programs. This could dilute the effectiveness of mosquito control in our community. Employee Wellness Program The Employee Wellness Committee will be hosting a presentation by nationally known speaker, Barb Bancroft. The presentation " Live A Little, Laugh A Lot'will include lunch.
