The start of the new immunization clinic schedule will commence in January of 2004, not 2003. New Environmental Health Inspector Kristen Gonsur started at the position of Environmental Health Inspector on June 9a'. Kristen was previously employed at Cook County Department of Public Health. Kristen is a State of Illinois Licensed Environmental Health Inspector. Due to a death of a family friend she was not able to attend the June Board of Health meeting. She will be present at the August meeting. Raccoon Roundworm The Health & Community Services Director presented follow up information on the survey conducted to determine the amount of raccoon roundworm in Village raccoons. Dr. Kristen Page a parasitologist from Wheaton College conducted the survey. Dr. Page did find a positive sample on Ruskin Drive. The homeowner was informed, and provided with information on how to protect themse Ives from raccoon roundworm infection. Health Services also developed a flyer on raccoon roundworm for the general public. Certificate of Need The Director provided a copy of a letter from the Mayor to State Legislators supporting ABMC request not to allow sunsetting of Certificate of Need legislation in Illinois. Computer Electronics Recycling On June 14, 2003, more than 1000 cars lined up to dropped off unwanted computers and other electronic items at the Motorola, Arlington Heights campus. Items that can be recycled, such as computers are refurbished and sent to schools and not-for-profit organizations. Usable cell phones are reprogrammed fro use by abused women groups. Recycline Toter Proeram Health Services has been very busy answering phone calls and inquiries from residents regarding the new recycling toter program. A majority of the inquiries have been from residents in the smaller residential units complaining about the size of the new toter. Many state they are unable to get the toter and their car into the garage. Waste Management does have smaller(35gallon) containers available. After conducting a survey of all single-family attached complexes it was determined that a majority of the residents living in these units wanted the smaller toters. The toters will be switched out over the next few weeks. Employee Wellness Proeram Massages have again been offered to employees. In July the Employee Wellness Committee will be holding the second amoral "Eat Healthy BBQ". A walking club has been formed and the weight watchers group continues to meet every Wednesday. West Nile Virus-Up Date As of June 13'h only two birds in the State of Illinois had been tested positive for West Nile virus. The Northwest Mosquito Abatement District has not carried out any nighttime spraying due to the cool nights. They need a steady overnight temperature of 60°F to spray. Recycline Maenets Health& Community Services has received a shipment of new recycling magnets. The magnets were distributed to all Board of Health members. July Meetine The Board of Health voted to cancel the July meeting. Normally the Board of Health does not hold a July meeting.
