Dennis Gallitano, Village Trustee Thomas Cech, Director of Public Works Harvey Goeddeke, Street Division Foreman Industrial Carriage Walks Chairman Tosto explained the criteria to use for replacement. Only hazardous, seriously damaged walk shall be considered for replacement. Public Works Department directed to make survey, and report back to Committee. Staff also directed to strengthen sections near driveways by thickening the slab. Industrial Drainage Ditch Cleaning Video tape of the condition of some of the ditches to be cleaned this year was shown. Much garbage, vegetation, cattails, and siltation was noted. Tape also showed the actual cleaning operations and the difficulty in getting access to the ditches. 1987 Street Maintenance Program The deletion of Nerge Road and Charlela Lane from the program was recommended by the Director of Public Works and approved by the Committee. Committee was concerned about the large amount of curb and gutter replacement. They instructed staff to be more selective and not replace curb that is just cracked or gouged and otherwise structurally sound. The Committee approved the 1987 Street Maintenance Program with the following highlights: 1. 34 streets (7.73 miles) to be resurfaced. 2 . 14, 500 L.F. of curb and gutter to be removed and replaced. 3 . 20,000 S.F. of sidewalk to be removed and replaced. 4 . 12, 000 S.F. of sidewalk to be mudjacked. C� Capital Improvements Committee Meeting January 22 , 1987 Page 2 5. Removal and replacement of an estimated 4 , 550 tons of failed sections of pavement prior to resurfacing. 6. Milling of existing pavement and placement of crack control fabric will also perform prior to resurfacing. The Committee also agreed with the recommendation to authorize $500,000 of "MFT" funds and $306,000 of "Capital Projects" funds to finance the program. The Village Board at their Feburary 10, 1987 meeting will be asked to: 1. Approve the 1987 Street Maintenance Program as submitted by the Director of Public Works in his January 20th memo but deleting Nerge 6 Charlela. 2 . Authorize the expenditure of $500,000 from the "MFT" fund and $306,000 from the "Capital Projects" Fund. 3. Authorize staff to advertise for bids on the necessary contracts to undertake this program.
