SUMMARY OF CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS
COMMITTEE MEETING
Tuesday, June 6, 1989

The meeting was called to order in the Elk Grove Village
Municipal Building by Trustee Tosto at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June
6, 1989. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss floodproofing
alternatives for the library building.
Trustee Tosto began the discussion by referring to the August
1987 flood and the resultant protection which was constructed at the
Village Hall. He felt that the library should be similarly protected
against any future flooding by providing floodproofing at an elevation
higher than that achieved in 1987.
Trustee Chernick thought that the type of floodproofing
provided might well depend on the ultimate use of the building. Dis-
cussion followed as to possible uses (Fire Department Administrative
offices, Community Activities). It was determined that the Village
Board would identify the ultimate use of the building and that, at
this time, the Capital Improvements Committee would review alternatives
and cost estimates and recommend floodproofing measures to the Village
Board.
The Committee directed the Village Engineer to establish
the 1987 flood elevation at various locations around the library
building and to prepare alternative floodproofing measures for each
individual side of the structure. The next Committee meeting would
be scheduled for a review of these alternatives at the library site.
The Village Engineer would advise the Committee Chairman of an
acceptable meeting date before the next Village Board meeting based
upon the schedule for which the various alternatives could be
established.
Zorana Dlugosz identified herself as a resident of the
Village and requested that the Village provide compensatory storage
if the Village employed floodproofing methods that required filling

of the floodplain area. Trustee Tosto assured her that the Village
would follow all of their established Ordinances and Regulations.
