Cycotte/Blank, Wesselink, Cook and Associates, Inc. FIRE STATION AND SALT DOME DEVELOPMENT ON OAKTON STREET Chief MacArthur presented a history of the Fire Department's effort to relocate the Landmeier Fire Station(Station 8). Original discussions were, held in 1989 with a line item being created in 1993 in the Capital Improvements Budget. Chief MacArthur then proceeded to present the two design concepts and detail the costs for each. The representatives from Blank, Wesselink, Cook and Associates, Inc. provided technical insights on constriction costs and building construction concepts. One of the significant differences in the two designs was the use of a gabled roof(design#1)vs. a flat roof. The gabled roof was estimated to cost $49,000 more than the flat roof. The major portion of this extra cost was in the use of sprinklers per code requirement to protect the combustible construction created by the wood truss constriction The significant costs associated with a flat roof are found in the following components: I. Welding of the metal deck vs. nailing plywood decking. 2. Steel bar joist construction vs. pre-fabed wooden trusses. 3. Rigid insulation materials vs. blown in insulation to achieve the correct "R" value. 4. Flashing the membrane materials. 5. Application of the metal coping on the masonry parapet walls. 6. Installation of the membrane roofing materials vs. asphalt or fiberglass shingles. The Committee also heard cost estimates for the construction of the Public Works Salt Dome which is to be co-located on the same parcel. The Committee comas and unanimously recommends that the Village provide the additional funding from the Capital Improvements Budget to construct the salt dome and fire station(design#1). An enclosure will accompany these minutes which details the changes to the Capital Improvements Budget caused by the increased costs for the fire station and the salt dome beyond the currently budgeted figures. 1997 STREET MAINTENANCE PRO AM The Committee reviewed 5/21/97 memo from Director of Public Works. The Committee concurs and unanimously reaommends the removal of Bond Street and the addition of Lively Boulevard from Oakton Street to Higgins Road to the previously approved 1997 Program at no additional cost to the Program.
