Jim Woods,Architect,presented a reconfigured space utilization plan and 3 front
elevation alternatives for consideration. 'Staff finds the space utilization to be adequate to
meet needs now and into the future. The basement will be utilized for storage and
mechanical equipment so elevators will riot need to be installed in the building.
The front elevations include relocating the front visitor entrance to the east.
Screening is provided of mechanical generator and other equipment.
Elevation plans A and B are nearly identical cost wise since they continue to
utilize the existing brick and roof. Elevation C includes new red brick on the face and a
new roof design. It is the most contemporary looking design,but its cost is
approximately$400,000 more than plans A or B.
Overall,construction work can be bid in late summer with work beginning in the
fall on the garage.
After further deliberation,the consensus of the Committee was to recommend the
following to the Village Board:
• Explore landscaping on the Commonwealth Edison property to screen the
garage from the residents of Wildwood;
• Pursue a modified plan of elevation C to reduce the cost. The modification
will use the existing gable roof design on each end and with a new hip roof in
the middle. This will trim $125,000 to $150,000 from the cost. (As a minority
opinion, Trustee Dill recommended elevation B.); and,
• Have FGM Architects prepare new elevations plans for Village Board
consideration from Elevations Band C, and include fully revised cost
estimates for each alternative.
Fire Station#7—Biesterfield Fire Station Addition
The Architect provided 2 elevation plans on the Fire Station addition for
consideration. Elevation A maintains the current look; Elevation B blends in with the
Town Center look. In addition, the work quarters were reviewed and meet the needs of
staff.
The Architect further noted that a space needs to be designated for the storage of
Public Works lawn mowers, snow blowers, etc. as well as a refuse dumpster for the
Municipal Complex.
The consensus of the Committee was to recommend the following:
• Utilize elevation A to distinguish the Fire Station from the commercial center;
• Locate the Public Works storage shed near the mechanical equipment in the
front of the"link"area since this area is highly screened from public view;
and,
• After taking a field trip of the parking lot, add a small refuse dumpster
enclosure to one parking spam away from the Town Center.
The meeting adjourned at 4:45 pm.
