SALT CREEK STREAMBANK STABILIZATION PROJECT
The Committee discussed the types of grants available and the
monetary participation required by the Village with each grant.
As the majority of the streambank is owned by other governmental
agencies (Park District and School District) and private owners,
the Committee decided on the following course of action:
1 . Staff should prepare letters to the Park District and School
District 214 to advise them of the problem and inquire about
their level of participation in solving the problem. The
letters should be prepared for Trustee Feichter's signature.
2. After the letters have been mailed to the governmental
agencies, Trustee Feichter will contact Nick Nikola and
suggest that Mr. Nikola may wish to contact the Park
District and make a presentation to the Park District Board
similar to the presentation Mr. Nikola made to the Village
Board in July.
After responses are received .from the other governmental bodies,
the Committee discussed the possibility of scheduling a public
hearing with the affected residential property owners to secure
their input on this issue. Staff was asked to contact other
communities along Salt Creek and see what action they are taking
in response to streambank erosion. Trustee Dill also expressed
concern about the legal ramifications of working on residential
properties as the property owners typically own to the centerline
of Salt Creek.
