SALT CREEK STREAMBANK STABILIZATION PROJECT
The Committee discussed the types of vegetative stabilization
utilized to stabilize streambanks and viewed photos of
stabilization being installed in Wood Dale. Mr. Nalezny, a
property owner in Wood Dale, advised the Committee about the
streambank stabilization work being done by the City of Wood
Dale. Installation and cost information from Mount Prospect's
and Wood Dale's streambank stabilization programs including grant
information was discussed. Ccncern was also expressed about the
legal ramifications of working on residential properties as the
property owners typically own to the centerline of Salt Creek.
Although the Elk Grove Park District is responsible for
maintenance of Salt Creek, as the M. W.R.D's Egan Plant discharges
a significant amount of water into Salt Creek, the Committee
believes that M. W.R.D. should also participate in the streambank
stabilization project. The Committee was interested in
obtaining a streambank consultant to prepare a study, similar to
Mount Prospect's Weller Creek Report. The study could then be
utilized to apply for grant funding for construction.
The Committee decided that a separate Committee of the Whole
Meeting should be scheduled for the entire Village Board to
further discuss streambank stabilization. Due to the holiday
season, the meeting may not: be scheduled until December or
January. Mr. Nikola and Mr. Nalezny were invited to return to
the Committee of the Whole Meeting to further discuss this issue.
