SALT CREEK STREAMBANK STABILIZATION PROJECT
The Committee reviewed the October 25, 2001 memorandum prepared by
the Director of Engineering. It was the consensus of the
Committee as follows:
- That new Village regulations be adopted limiting
abutting homeowners from cutting or removing
vegetative erosion control/stabilization measures
from the banks of the creek.
- That the Village and Park District would be willing
to fund the operation and maintenance activities
associated with the erosion control/stabilization
measures for a term of ten years. The School
District representative will confer with the
principal at Elk Grove High School and their
maintenance staff and will advise the Village about
the District's willingness to perform maintenance
along the High School property.
- That the educational requirements of the grant
including the annual meeting and biannual newsletters
would be funded by the Village.

There was some discussion about the existing retaining walls,
concrete steps and boat clocks in place along the creek.
Engineering staff took photos along the creek from Arlington
Heights Road to Devon Avenue- and forwarded these photos to our
engineering consultant for her review. She indicated that most of
the existing retaining walls were being undercut by the creek and
would need to be removed in order to stabilize the banks. One of
the retaining walls was substantial and she believed they could
design around it. Boat docks and canoe launches would be removed
during construction. if allowed by the design engineer, docks and
launches could be reinstalled at the homeowners expense. Pathways
through the vegetation for homeowner access might be permitted and
will be addressed during design
The Committee unanimously agreed to recommend to the Mayor and
Board of Trustees that the Agreement between the Village and NIPC
be approved and that the Village proceed with retaining a design
engineer to implement the project.
