Present: Trustee Jim Petri (Chair), Trustee Nancy Czarnik, and Trustee Pat Feichter Staff: Thomas Cech, Director of Public Works and Scott Bernholdt(Utilities Superintendent) Devon Ave.Water Transfer Station Staff explained the purpose of project. Ir. will provide an additional source of water for the west/higher pressure zone during high demand periods, and emergency operations such as fires and catastrophic water main breaks. The west zone has only one (1) connection to JAWA while the east zone has three (3). The Transfer Station will take water from the east zone and boost the pressure and transfer it to the west zone in time of high demand utilizing an existing 16" water main under 1-290 just north of Devon that is currently shut down. Water Main Crossina of 1-290 at Biesterfield Tom Cech's memo of July 11, 2003 was reviewed regarding the current condition of the pipe. It was leaking and has been shut down. Public Works has been operating without the pipeline in service since the middle of March without any significant problems. Staff plans minor modifications to the Devon Ave. Water Transfer Station Project design that will open the water main crossing of I-290 at Devon Ave. to handle similar functions that the water main crossing of 1-290 at Biesterfield previously performed. Staff recommends leaving the Biesterfield line isolated until the operation of the water system with the East to West transfer station is evaluated. The Committee took following actions: o Recommended approval of staff recommendation to modify the design and fabrication of the Devon Ave. Water Transfer Station Project at a cost of$6,300. (Awarded by VB on July 15, 2003) o Concurred with staff recommendation to not undertake any repair or replacement of the Biesterfield pipeline at this time and keep it out of service o Recommended the Public Works Department budget for replacement of the Biesterfield water main crossing under 1-290 in the next fiscal year.
